My wife wants a new pistol. She has a 357 revolver that her dad gave her, and while she can shoot it, it is a little big for her. I'd like to get her something in 40 SW that will be comfortable in for her small frame/hands. Any suggestions? |

If you are "stepping " down from a 357 to 40 I'd put her in a 9mm Xd or Glock More important question is plinking?competition ? Or carry weapon??? |

Walther pk380 is a great gun too. Ambidextrous safety and magazine release and its pretty easy on the wallet. |

Smith & Wesson MP .40 SHIELD! Anything in .40 in a compact is going to be lively but that is one of the best compact .40's i have ever shot. Great trigger (imo), FAST aim point and back on target (for a compact .40). Small enough for her, big enough for you. I am a BIG supporter of this gun if you cant tell. Im buying another in 9mm first quarter of '13. If you want full size Glock or S&W MP. I used to be nothing but a 1911 guy but my Glock 19 is my EVERYDAY gun with the Shield .40 as my super conceal. |

Taurus 709 in 9mm. It was designed as a carry gun with a lot of nice features. |

She's got the best thing for personal defense, buy some 38 special rounds for her to plink with and keep it loaded with 357 any other time. Dont get a 380 or a 9mm, they wont stop a ***** on a crack! If you get something different, stick with the 40. |

my carry piece is a Ruger LC9 (9mm), it's slightly larger than their LCP (.380). I have no complaints with it, i can just barely fit my whole hand on it, and it hides well. |

I dropped down from. 40 to 9mm I found I could stay on target firing multiple rounds better...my carry gun is a .380. |

There is no such thing as stopping power or knock down power when it comes to self defense handguns. I would get her a 9mm over larger calibers as it will be easier to shoot and ammo is cheaper. You can always use +P ammo for self defense. For me, The S&W Shield is hands down the best shooting subcompact on the market today. |

I disagree on the no stop power, energy transfer is the key. I carry a cdp pro 2 bought the new xds love this weapon , it is my deep carry. Wife has a cdp ultra and can shoot it well, she has weak wrists also. 185 grain works for her, also dg the p238 is the old colt mustang colt sold the tool and patent to sig wife has this on the car. Thanks for the input guys. The problem with the gun that her dad gave her is that it is a full sized revolver. It's a big boy. The recoil of a a 357 is a bit much for her, but the gun itself is too large for her to effectively wield. I like the .40 and have a ton of rounds already, so I figured I'd ger her a .40 also. I will definitely look into the SW compacts as well as the springfield XD compacts. I carry a XD 40, and while the trigger is a little rough, that damn gun goes boom everytime. |

One warning about the SW Shields. Shopping for one is just like shopping for a puppy or a new truck. If you hold it, you may as well get out the checkbook! ![]() Sent from my MB865 using Tapatalk 2 |

Mike, Try locating one of those .40 shields Tx Aggie is talking about and just check it out. If I had to buy one for my wife it would be that. When I get through my concealed class you can bet I'll have this gun. Very comfortable gun in your hand. http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/ ... rrorView_Y |

My wife carries a Glock 26. She is small and has very small hands. She picked up about 15 or 20 handguns and liked the feel of the 26 the best. I carry a Glock 27, but just got a Bodyguard from my wife for Christmas. The Bodyguard is a very nice little handgun. I keep it in an ankle rig, but it fits nicely in a pocket as well (when I wear shorts). Yep...It is still shorts weather here in south Florida. |
