BayouStateHunter - Good looking buck. Do you know what it scored?

SETx Longtail - Hey man, if you were crosseyed and buck toothed like me, you would put them on your face also.

My two bow kills so far this year

Post subject:  Re: 2013 Bucks

My only bow kill this year was the sappling I killed that was in front of the 8 point I shot at.

I need to give away the 1995 Browning Mirage, get a good bow, practice like I should, and do some serious bown hunting next year.

Jlacour - that is a good looking buck you took with the bow.

I shot a browning mirage before my current bow. It will get the job done, but the new rigs are so much smoother, faster, and quieter. Not cheap but it's nice.

Did you age that 10? I like that trash on the base!

He was 4 years old.

The rack was thick at the bottom, and had some strange little kickers on it. For some reason, the G2 never grew, and it was not very wide, nor were the brow tines very tall. I did not score it, but would bet it would be around a 115.

I have a ten point that I am hunting that I think will go between 130 and 140. He has put the slip on me a number of times now. Last year I bounced a arrow off his shoulder blades. I have glassed him crossing hay fields this year, and he is is usually in high gear when he does.

I have been sitting before sun up with binoculars, trying to spot him at first light. I have switched over to one of my long range tacitcal rifles, where I can laze him and dial in the distance out to 500 and beyond.

This is a better pic of the rack

Next year, we should try to come up with some sort of MMT big buck contest.

Have half the proceeds go to something like the Wounded Warrior Foundation, and the other to an Academy Sports gift certificate. I would be willing to throw a hundred bucks in the pot.

BayouStateHunter.

I remember back in the early 90s, when I was hunting with a Pearson Ultra with overdraw, and it was the bow to have. In the 80s, I had a Bear Whitetail II.

X2 on the new bows. I shot a 1997 Mathews z-max for 17 years. Killed 100's of deer with it. Said I would never buy a new one. Well last year a bout the new helium from Mathews. What a difference. The 6 deer I killed with it all had clean pass trough even at 40 yards or greater. I can't remember the last time I had pass trough with the old bow. Shit the money I'm saving with none broke arrows is paying for itself lol

I recently upgraded from a Renegade Trophy Rak plus to the Mathews Z7 Extreme which was a night and day difference. Some of the guys I shoot with jumped from the Z7 and Helix to the new Creed and are contemplating going back. Bows today are getting so close to peak efficiency that some think they might have hit the wall for awhile

Post subject:  Re: 2013 Bucks

I chose the Z7 extreme over the helim after shooting them back to back.

that is an interesting rack. He looks like a young deer. It would have been interesting to see what his rack would have looked like at about 4 years old.

I had a buddy back strap an elk with an arrow and he killed it the next season. They tough for sure. Gotta be pretty rewarding chasing a deer for a long time like that and finally getting to harvest him. Like winning a long chess match. If I was nearby I'd buy you a drink.
