Prevent mold and mildue in camp?
I got in a hunting lease 2 years ago and it's 3 house boats on the lease and one if them they hadant stayed in for a long time we'll last year I had enough of them and a few of us started using the old house boat we'll I went around teal season last year and cleaned that house boat spotless for us this past duck season and this year I wanna keep it clean over the summer months. And I don't want it to mold and mildue over the hot summer months because some camps I go in I can't sleep in and I just bought me a new matress this past year for my bunk. It hits me in other camps when I go to bed. What can I do to keep every thing in it clean and fresh . I'm going this weekend so I wanna prepare it because dont go to Much in the off season many once or twice

Re: Prevent mold and mildue in camp?
Make sure to fix all leaks around camp. Mold won't grow if it has (-) air "dry air". Once you do have mold you gotta make sure you get it all up the shit spreads quick when the air is on pushin it around

Re: Prevent mold and mildue in camp?
Mold needs moisture. Not sure how big your camp is but some sort of cooling would help it. You might can get away with fans and a solar panel to keep it dry if you have enough air exchanges.

Re: Prevent mold and mildue in camp?
It's gonna be hard to fix all the air leaks cause it's perty old needs all new door frames and seals around the windows idk exactly how big it is but it's the biggest one of the 3 20 wide by probably 40 -50 long if I had to guess. That solar panel with a fan sounds like a good idea but it's to make sure it had no air leaks that's prop why it don't have no mild cause it has so manny leaks and we try to bomb it every time we go in the off season idk if tbat helps with mold or not

Re: Prevent mold and mildue in camp?
Solar powered fans and some cans of wet rid or whatever it's called....it's amazing how much moisture those pellets will absorb.... If there is a lot of moisture then put out a dozen cans and change them every 2 to 3 weeks.....If you have a good solar system you could run a dehumidifier on a timer to keep it dry.

Air leaks actually help, you just don't want rain water to get in.

Re: Prevent mold and mildue in camp?
Damp Rid, get the big buckets....probably around 3 or 4 of them....i use them religiously and they work very well....clean up mildew first and then put these out....you'd be amazed how much moisture these will pick up

They got em at Wal Mart, look in the camper section where you find the miscellaneous items for the travel trailers.

Re: Prevent mold and mildue in camp?
I use a couple gallon ziplocks full of charcoal under the cover of my bass boat. That solved my mildew problems.

Re: Prevent mold and mildue in camp?
Charcoal is absorbant and helps capture the smell.... damprid was what I was talking about..... that shot is super absorbant... sucks moisture right out of the air....... A small dehumidifier would be the cats meow for keeping the camp dry and mold free...... just don't put moisture on the mold to clean it..... scrap it then killz it...... spraying chlorox will add moisture and the mold will come back.... chlorox works great on the outside though.....

Re: Prevent mold and mildue in camp?
My camp is 20yrs old and dont have a mold problem. The doors don't seal real good so it breathes. I say don't let water in and let it breathe.

Re: Prevent mold and mildue in camp?
When you clean it use a chemical like enforce or any tough alcohol cleaning product. The alcohol in the cleaning will kill and dry up all mildew and moisture. You are going to have to prevent moisture from entering the camp. It is also important to air it out every once in a while. It is going to be tough if it is not sealed. Humidity will make everything sweat if it is not sealed.

Re: Prevent mold and mildue in camp?
Mildew is created by water. Prevent the water from entering and you don't have mildew. My old camper stayed on my hunting lease for years. It was sealed and never had Mildew, bugs or any problems.

WhoDat what's your comments on this.
What about the days before AC when everyone had windows open day and night? You mean to tell me that every house in the south was filled with mold/mildew.

Re: Prevent mold and mildue in camp?
Mildew is not "created" by moisture, it needs moisture to grow/live just like you need water, remove the moisture with air and you wont have mildew or mold. Too add to the prevention, clean everything with bleach and you've also killed/removed the nutrients it will need to grow as well.

Re: Prevent mold and mildue in camp?
You guys can jump on this all you fucking want. I really don't give a shit. You can leave cracks and open windows all you fucking want. If the camp is getting water in it then it won't matter. I can poke holes on your theory as well. I choose not to. So you can poor water all over your camp but if you open a window mold won't grow? Really? Really? Y'all can't be serious.

Re: Prevent mold and mildue in camp?
Back before AC they had awnings to keep the rain from entering with the windows open but the air is what keep the inside dried out which starved any mildew/mold. So it can rain all it wants to as long as you have air moving.

Spraying with vinegar will kill the mold. I agree that the leaks must be stopped and air circulation and no more problems.
