 pipe bomb speakers done (pics)
I used some 6" green pvc pipe, and some white 6" 90 elbows for it. Apparently green 6" and white 6" isnt the same size. Still made it work though by filling in the small gap with black silicon/caulk, and used self tapping screws to secure it. This will probably be the better way in the long run if I ever have an issue with the amplifier or what not, I can gain access easily. Some pictures.. Here I mounted the amp on 2 pieces of 1X4. I slide a 2X4 in there but there was too much play (the stacked 1X4's were slightly thicker and worked like a charm) I then ran a 1" self tapping screw through the bottom of the amp mount (boards) so it wont bound around in there. This thing is LOUD. The speakers sound great, ever for $40 ones. That black coating is the spray on rubber stuff from wal mart. It is going to flake off fast, and I even sanded it. So skip that step if you build one. Just spray paint it flat black or whatever so you can touch it up if you care later on. So total cost.. amp - $35 speakers - 40 6" pipe (had it) 6" elbows - 35 About half the cost if I bought one online, and it was a good time making it.

Mount that on your boat, hook them up to an e-call and you will pull ducks and geese from the next county.

Re: pipe bomb speakers done (pics)
Do you use an MP3 as a music source?
Guess I have been out of the loop to long, never seen anything like this. It does look nice though.
Good job.

Hizzy, did the same thing except in DeWALT. I do need a Pelican case for my Ipod. Stanco, that looks pretty slick though. You and Sand Man should combine forces and make a hard hat light with giant ass speaker tubes on it. That would be the shit.

Re: pipe bomb speakers done (pics)
was at Stanco's house earlier... I was suprised at how good those speakers sounded for cheapo grade. and it never dawned on me that you don't have to have anything other than an mp3 player and an amp... nothing else.

Re: pipe bomb speakers done (pics)
are ya'll running these off of your starting battery or an auxillary 12 v source like the tm battery. How much power drain are we talking on one of these? How long will a fully charged deep cycle tm battery power that setup?

Hizzoner's isn't ghetto enough. I think mine came out pretty nickel-fied.
Stanco, does the pipe amplify the sound?

the one picture above shows the speakers and the amp. I dont know if the pipe helps with the sound, but it should a little.

Re: pipe bomb speakers done (pics)
I just noticed I didnt put up an IMPORTANT picture.
Notice the inside of the 90...there is an additional PVC 'sleeve' that I have inside there. I cust a slice out of the sleeve to make it smaller so it would fit.
This piece is important so as the screws that hold the speakers down have more surface area to catch.
Saw this little tip on a four wheeler board, good idea..

Re: pipe bomb speakers done (pics)
Did you wire the speakers in opposite phase? If not, you might try to see if you'll get more volume ( and better sound) at lower frequencies by doing that. The tube is sealed so if one speaker pushes in while the other pushes out your speaker cone doesn't have to fight compression or rareification inside the tube. Its more of a concern for big subwoofer speakers, but it might make a difference.
