I spoke with one of the newest hotels in the area today. This would be the hotel with the most parking available, walking distance to several restaurants, walking distance to a local mall (Target is in there), right across the highway from Wal-Mart & Academy, and less than 10 miles from the boat ramp. My question is this, is it worth the price they want? Best rate they'd give us is $96 if less than 15 rooms are booked, or $89 if more than 15 rooms are booked. It's yall's money, should I keep checking, or are yall happy with this one (Holiday Inn Express in Port Arthur)?

$84 @ La Quinta in Bridge City using Hotels.com

It had good parking & was 10 minutes from ramp... also La Quinta accepts pets. I brought my 2 full grown labs last year and left them in the kennel during the run. They were very comfortable & no fee's for pets!

La Quinta Inn & Suites Bridge City
108 Texas Ave, Bridge City, TX, 77611
1-866-539-0036

There is also a La Quinta in Port Arthur closer to the ramp for $99.

Rob can you check on the parking at the Port Arthur location?

From what I recall, the PA location doesn't have much parking, that's why I tried Holiday. Might still be able to get a better deal there, just need actual head count.

Same thing I ran into last year, could have gotten a group discount but couldn't get 10 to say they wanted rooms.

Rob, I got rewards points w/ 4 chains. I will be using some of these for my rooms. I agree about the rates though. Post some options w/ good parking and rates and let folks have at it. You will run yourself crazy trying to do too much.

I guess I'll just get with both of em & try to get a small group rate at both. I'll post up their contact info when I find out their prices.

Post subject:  Re: Lodging

hey rob i'll go check the Airport Inn(old Best Western) at Nederland Ave. and Hwy 69 tomorrow while on patrol....should be cheaper than what ya got listed...we had some minor issues there last summer with employees but the new management has really cleaned it up...knock on wood/haven't made a report there yet of vehicles being messed with and i can make sure the night guys give the parking lot a lot of po-po presence all night long....plenty of parking

Post subject:  Re: Lodging

Also looked at hotels.com......Candlewood Suites behind Sanderson's Restuarant on Hwy 69 is from $80 and Days Inn & Suites on Hwy69 between Jimmie Johnson and the mall starts from $63....dont know about parking at Days Inn. Candlewood parking would be enough and I could talk to Everett and prolly get permission to use some of the restuarant parking

Post subject:  Re: Lodging

Hey, good looking out there, Luce. Appreciate it. If Candlewood is that cheap, I'd definitely recommend it over the Days or BW. Plenty parking, super nice rooms, & Sanderson's is some pretty good eats.

Post subject:  Re: Lodging

If anybody stays in the ones off of 69/96 I can put in a request to have the parking lots patrolled by some friends of mine that work for the PD

Just a thought, they like busting people's ass for stealing

Post subject:  Re: Lodging

Candlewood Suites in Nederland quoted me $65 a night for single or double bed rooms, cont. breakfast every morning, good parking, these are good rooms that have full size fridges and stoves, Sanderson's Bar & Grill across parking lot....if enough are interested i'll get with the manager and let her set up the group in their computer so anyone calling to reserve a room for SETX Mudrun 2012 should get the above price

Post subject:  Re: Lodging

^^^^ Those are some really nice rooms too. This is a helluva deal!!!! In my personal opinion, this is the BEST deal available. I believe they also are pet friendly, but with a deposit.

Big thanks to Luce for all the leg work he did. Yall probably don't know it, but he went door to door at SEVERAL of the local hotels to try to get a good rate. I really appreciate it.
8-)

Post subject:  Re: Lodging

Dang...I did forget to ask about pets. I'll go back by tomorrow while i'm out on patrol. I'll see if i can get the deposit waived if they allow pets. If they do not allow them I could prolly board a FEW dogs in the Nederland PD dog pound for the night. We keep the kennels really clean.

How man ppl from around the SELA (Houma, Morgan City, Thibodeaux, Raceland, etc.)area plan on making the run? I may be able to make it out there, will know for sure in about a week or so, and if there are a few folks from this end maybe everyone could arrange to meet up the Friday afternoon and make the trip over to TX. Just a thought...

Not trying to pressure anybody at all(in case my previous post came across that way)....i know its hard to take off work, families, etc....trust me i got 2.5yr old twins.....this is a great deal and i'm trying to make it affordable for everyone...plus this motel is in my jurisdiction so i can make sure the night patrol guys keep an eye on everyone's boats...i'm gonna go ahead and set up the account this week just to be prepared and so we don't lose the price :)

Anytime...anything else I can do let me know.....just a thought too....if this hotel does work out, Coe mentioned in another thread about possible get together dinner Friday night....if we have many persons, I can talk to the owner of Sanderson's, Everett, and reserve the banquet room since it is across the parking lot. Good food and a Bar.

Is there a lot of rif-raf and dope heads that hang around the boat ramp?

I might just ride down the night before and sleep in my truck.

Post subject:  Re: Lodging

Nope, but if you do that, you're gonna get woke up by the cops. Would probably still be cheaper to spend the $65 for the Candlewood.

Post subject:  Re: Lodging

I'm still working on dog prices at Candlewood. But like Coe said if its cheaper and ya like the place from last year in Bridge City than more power to ya. If no one is really staying in hotels and only 1 or 2 guys are planning to spend the night, I am flirting with the idea of lodging 1-2 guys at my house.....I live a little over a mile from the ramp.....of course being the cop paranoid forker i am, it is just a thought so dont hold me to it yet
