 Prayers Needed Hey all, my grandfather is not doing to well. He is 86 and has been battling cancer (prostate) for over 15 years. It is the slow growing kind so doctors could never find it nor officially diagnose it, especially during the early part. He has had over 50+ biopsies and all came back negative. His PSA count is through the rough (or was) then decreased. A few years ago he was hospitalized and MRI's were taken. They finally spotted the cancer. It had spread to his spine, wrapping around the spinal column causing him to have difficulty walking & affecting his mobility. We began chemo treatment (pills only) & care was provided to keep quality of life in mind. He overcame it and has continued to persevere. Last week he started to go down hill. He has been hospitalized again running fever. He has swelling in his brain and test are being run to pinpoint what type of bacteria infection he has. (West Nile, Encephalitis, Meningitis etc) Doctors have given him a few days to 6 months based on his condition & age. Tough to see a strong man go downhill. My mom (the youngest) has been in Colorado for 2 months & is flying back early to be with her daddy today. Please keep Sam (my grandfather) in your prayers. We'll know more after the weekend once the results of the Spinal Tap come back.

Re: Prayers Needed Definitely will be praying for him and your family. My girlfriend's mother just got West Nile about 3 weeks ago. Had to take her to the ER during a family trip. Can't tell you how scary that was. She still has slight headaches each day but is getting better. I hope your grandfather can tough this one out too.

Re: Prayers Needed Wow. The power of prayer.... We just found out it's West Nile Virus. The anti-biotics they started him on today are starting to work. Not out of the woods yet by any means but it's good that we know what it is.
