Does anyone in LA kno where I can get a couple ducks...preferably a wood duck or teal maybe something smaller for a pup....or would some other type of small bird work for what I'm doing? Thanks for any help

I know they are different, but I use pigeons in the off season for my dog.

I have permission to hunt a feed lot that is packed with pigeons. The dog loves it, and it helps me stay sharp with the gun skills. It's as close to an Argentina style dove hunt as I'll ever get

Re: how do i preserve a duck for training?
We have a ton of them close by too. Though they are not where they can be shot outright on the wing. That would be great. Could go for a hunt/retrieve session year round. I really need to trap some myself.

Re: how do i preserve a duck for training?
It's damn fun! It was almost 100 degrees this day, and me and a friend shot 63 of them. Jager retrieved all but 4 of them. He has his own camelbak for hunts like this.

Farms, bridges, over passes or anywhere there is food for them. If you have them in town I can assure you that someone wants rid of them nasty basturds.............. Build a trap and catch them.

Ewww Yeah the ones we shoot at that spot have a gullet full of grain, sometimes they explode when you shoot them they are so full. I wouldn't want to touch one of you pigeons, I would feel bad for my dog having to put that in his mouth

Re: how do i preserve a duck for training?
you can actually shine pigeons with a ladder and a light from under the bridges and overpasses. We do it occasionally before training days, and cops who stop and ask what we are doing just laugh and move on. The birds usually don't move and you can just grab em off the ledges. We will hit 8 to 10 overpasses and usually get 15-20 birds. May wanna check your local game laws.
