 Re: Meet Otto
So a little up date Week 10 Ate a balloon. Did not know until he shit it out Week 11 Took him on his first boat ride. First a little unsure then started walking around. He found a plastic frog and laid and chewed on it. He found that more interesting than the boat ride Week 12 Brought him to the fishing camp. Hung out in the pier while we sorted shrimp. Started playing with about 2 1/2" crab. Grab caught him in the face. This pissed Otto off. He then ripped claws of and consumed them. After then he decided to eat the rest of crab. I did not witness it but I am sure at one point he shit out razor blades. Week 14. Last week I popped a dove off the power line and this was the result. http://youtu.be/o1U_DOTJ-h0So needless to say, I believe he is gonna be a bird dog.

 Re: Meet Otto
4 1/2 months and 28 lbs. Been working about 5 days a week. Here, sit, kennel, boat, drop, load up, inside, outside, eat, poop, pee, back up, lay, and NO Those are the commands that are burned into brain. Here and sit are also on whistle http://youtu.be/ReOsDrkTrRgI've been changing my locations about once a week. To keep it unfamiliar Working on Remote spot he is at about 90% on Heel: 60% Once those commands are truly honed in I will move into the force fetch. He will will know remote spot for sure by the end of the next week and be pretty close in the heel. I still believe I will just continue to reiterate these commands for about another month before force fetching. I personally need more training before I start the force fetching process I have been feeding him diamond puppy from tractor supply. I am very happy with the food. He coat is soft and shiny and his poo's are hard. He gained 8 lbs in a month on this food so I will continue with it. After I get him off the puppy blend I plan to go to the diamond athlete.

 Re: Meet Otto
Do these dogs have long tails ? Seems to me the dog would be better in the water with its tail still on ?

I believe the boykin society expects them to be clipped, but I could be mistaken

 Re: Meet Otto
I have seen them long, half clipped, and fully clipped. Mine is fully clipped but i am but sure why. I thought it would be better for swimming also but mine doesn't struggle swimming.

 Re: Meet Otto
Well, It's been a little while since I gave Y'all an update.
Remote sit 100% doesn't matter what it is. I show it to him and make sure he understands it's his "spot" and he will go to it.
heal is 95% the 5 % issue I have is that he wants to look at me.
Force fetch started yesterday. I am trying to go for about 3 short sessions a day. He fought me about the first 3 times I put my hand in his mouth. He has since calmed down and been more receptive to my hand in his mouth. He still is mouthing my hand a little but I 'm not to worried about that. It will come out with the progression of FF
I am impressed with where he is at for 5 1/2 months. Hopefully by January I wanna get him on an easy hunt so he can mark some birds.

 Re: Meet Otto
Here is some pics from the weekend. Otto made his first retrieve it happened so fast I didn't have time to snap a picture. He was in his spot and marked the bird and it hit about 10 yards out. He stay still until I gave him Otto. He was so excited he took a dump immediately after

 Re: Meet Otto
a little update is now seven and a half months old. is now completed force fetch it took me a little bit longer than expected due to me having some back pain so I couldn't bend over and Working 50 hour weeks. Now we are working on force to pile with the end of duck season I will be able to be more consistent with the training. All and all he is a great dog. Loves bird watching. He made about 15 retrieves this year (all marks. ) he does get a little bit impatient when sitting in the blind for a few hours. I imagine that just the puppy in him. The little shit weighs 37 pounds
