I think when my ornery ass jack russell terror finally hikes his leg for the last time we're gonna get a larger hound dog. I was curious if any of ya;ll had em and what ya thought ofem.

I have a bloodhound. She is sweet as can be and great with kids. She's goofy as Hell and hard headed but we love her. Mine definitely has a mind of her own too. She loves people but doesn't necessarily want to please like say a lab does. Hoping that's the puppy in her.

Re: any hound owners here? blood, blk n tans, redbones etc
I've redbones and black and tans. It could have just been the dogs I had but the black and tan was as laid back as they come, if he would've been any more relaxed the joker would have went into a coma. Someone stole him out of the kennel and as sad as I was to lose a great companion and a crazy good blood trailing dog I'll bet the folks that stole him got a good surprise. He wouldn't hardly hunt a biscuit. I had a couple red bones that were real go getter coon dogs but were real good with kids and women, they knew when it was just guys they could sort of act a fool and cut loose but with kids and women around they were pretty well mannered. Both of them got ran over one night by an 18 wheeler. Haven't had a dog of any kind since, I've got to bad of luck with them.

Sorry to hear about your hounds buddy. Once she gets her mind on something she definitely doesn't want to listen Capt.

My next dog will be a redbone! I've owned beagles and labs my whole life and loved them but the next one is gonna be a redbone. Great family and hunting dogs!

Re: any hound owners here? blood, blk n tans, redbones etc
Had a beagle when I was a lil kid till one of my cousins gave the damn thing away while they were walkin it. I thought about gettin a couple of them as I love to hear them goobers sound off, nothin finer then hearin a hound let loose with that voice. With all the coyotes we got out here though I'd feel better havin a more sizeable dog then a beagle. Looks like when I get a hound of some sort a gps dog collar might be a good investment.

Yea I definitely want 2, they seem to behave better in pairs inside the house, or at least thats what I been told. The runnin off part is my biggest concern, don't feel like havin to go chase or find 2 hounds at 12am on a work night cuz they smelt a bunny

Re: any hound owners here? blood, blk n tans, redbones etc
not at all mine and the famous "fred" are super chill, i think the nipping is just like any breed, not socalized around kids and other animals or bad breeding.
I have a buddy who has red bones that live in a pin and only come out to coon hunt...... thoes things would kill ANYTHING but a grown man if it came in the yard.
I have another buddy who has 3 blue ticks they live in the yard/ house, coon hunting machines and sweet as can be to kids and people........ so there ya go. my 2 cents
