Post Need fetch advice..
My pup is a chessie/ male/ 12 weeks old
His obedience is coming around fairly good
Sit/stay very obident...
My problem is fetching....
He was fetching short distances 10-15 feet at 8-9 weeks, now he lost intrest, when I toss the object( usually ball) he runs to it checks it out then wonders away from it:(....
My question is where do I go from here?

Thanks -cody

Get him interested in it. Play with him and object in a small area. Tease him and play with it. With my dog you could tease a little and that would get him excited and i would let him run around and play as long as he had it in his mouth. For last couple months he shouldve been growing to love the retrieve and learning/know basic obedience. But it's not too late!

Good luck!

His teeth might be hurting, try throwing a paint roller. Make sure you keep it fun and only a couple throws a day to keep him/her wanting more.

Do not take da object away from em. Let em have it after he retrieves it. If ya take er away all da time he may not think its fun to do da work an have ya just take it from em. Whenever he is carryin somethin or bringin somethin back, compliment him. Rub his mouth an tell em good dog while he's got an object. Repeat the word fetch while doing so. It'll help ya when ya get around ta force fetchin.

12 weeks is a bit young to expect anyhthing more than a sit and stay. He is still a puppy. Make it fun for the dog.

Same advice as already given. He is young but lots of praise for anything he carries even if not allowed to have it. He will be glade to pick anything up for you later with the early praise. 2-5 fetches is plenty at such a young age. Try a soft sqeeky toy for excitement. Shouldnt hurt his teeth and the noise is fun.

Good luck
