i have a 23 week old chocolate lab male that is growing like a weed and will hopefully be my new hunting partner. idk y but Drake drinks a ton of water. every time he drinks he acts like he hasn't had any all day. I keep two different very large buckets full of fresh water out for him. One out side and one in the house. Every night he wakes me up at 3:15-3:30. You can set ur alarm to it. He does not need to piss he just wants more water. He gets plenty during the day so i don't understand why he is waking up every night wanting more. We have had 5 labs including him over the years and none of them have drank as much as he does. He has access to plenty during the day and before i put him in the crate. past two nights ive put a bowl in the crate and that kept him quiet till about 6 am but he still drinks a ton of water when i feed him in the morning. if yall could give me any idea as to why he drinks so much id appreciate it. he is healthy as a horse. just went to vet last week and the son of a gun weighs 70 pounds! Vet said he was healthy just needed to cut down on feeding. |

He drinks because he's thirsty ![]() You might need to call your vet if you think it's a problem. |

What are you feeding him and what kind of treats? Some of the cheaper brands of food put a lot of salt in their food. |

Feed him at night? Don't feed him at night before you go to bed. Bet he eats a pile of dry dog food, thn it absorbs every ounce of moisture in his body. Just a guess. They do need lots of water though. At least he wakes you up, and does not just take a giant piss in the living room.... |

we feed him 1 and a half cups of kibbles and bits twice a day. feed him around 8 every night but don't' put him up for the night till much later. food might be the problem but my bloodhound eats same food and does not drink even half as much as he does. could be the treats. |

Supplement his dry kibble with a bit of wet food. A little extra moisture would help. Take him off that food and get him on something better. |

#1 get a better food. #2 try feeding him around 6:30-7 it's amazing how much an hour will make a difference. #3 try putting a little water on his food. Where the water is about half full to the amount of food. This will help him slow down as he eats and will give him a little more moisture intake. Especially with it starting to get warm this is a good thing to do until the end if warm months. Also dogs are just like people. You ever wake up in the middle of the night with cotton mouth? Dogs get the same thing for various reasons. Like they say don't sleep with your fan on because it dries your sinuses (I don't listen because I have to have a fan on) but same things with dogs. |

Purina and Purina Mills are two diff companies. PM sells livestock feed, and has some huge research centers. Feed stores carry their products and they even have different qualities of feed for dogs. I'm currently feeding a high quality Exclusive performance, but they are about to intro a "ultra" feed for working dogs. My pup does great on exclusive, but I may have to look at the literature on the ultra when it debuts |

Stay away from dry dog foods that have a main ingredient of Corn of ground corn, it has no nutrional value to your pet and they will eat and drink more because they aren't getting full, I feed canidae it has no corn or animal byproducts in it. even at 56 bucks a bag it comes out to about $1.60 a day per dog for me and thats pretty cheap considering what they do for ya |

If you do your homework you will see that the most of your so called good dog food like Iams and Science diet have almost exactly the same ingredients as your cheap purina or ole roy they still use by products and corn which is just a filler, Also when that whole dog food recall was going on most those companys where part of it. Science diet might cost alot but that doesn't mean its a great food for your dog, Not saying its that bad but take a look at your main ingredients before jumping into anything especially just for the name. |

everyone has there own opinion. I feed the sams club food EXceed Chicken and rice. Its very similar to pro plan. My dogs stay healthy and they like it. Like others said stay away from the corn based feeds. |

I'm sold on it. I drive to Gonzales every five or six weeks to get feed. I get 240# for 160 bucks. $1.50/# and its corn, wheat, and gluten-free. The extra effort on my part shows in my hounds so no complaints here. |

My bloodhound puppy drinks a lot too. Probably has more to do with daddy issues though... --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=30.714842,-88.105904 |

Check with your vet, get him checked for diabetes. My girl drinks massive amounts all at one time, i have to stop her and tell her to come up for air take a break. Drinking alot like that can cause BLOT, IT IS A TERRIBLE THING. she also as food allergies. As far as food, Blue Buffalo is exppensive but works great on her allergies, we have 5 dogs on it 2 mastiffs 2 mutts and the queen lab. |

When lookubg at foods sometimes price steers you away but dont let it once you get on a good food with less corn and grains and what ever else they use as preservatives your dogs seem to not need as much food to stay energetic and healthy I feed diamond naturals. Price is decent about $28 for 40 lbs. I prefered nutra source but harder to find around here even though it is made just nortg of me about 90 miles. Good luck and let us know if the food change help the water issue |
