That day has finally come, or at least the day I can finally force myself to admit it anyway. As I sit here looking down at a dog that has truely been my best friend for the past 12 years I realize that it is the hardest decission that I have ever made in my life. I see a friend that has been there through thick and thin. Who's eyes still seem so full of life, yet who's body can no longer carry him though the day. My only peace is knowing he will be in a better place soon. Relode has been a major part of our family and we will miss him.

Sorry to hear Poker. May he rest easy. The puppy days end, and it all goes so fast.

I can relate to this, except mine was a female. Best hunting partner ever, them dogs will go to the extreme to see that their job is done. More work going for them ducks than we'll ever go through i can promise you that. I cried like a baby when she passed. Sorry for your loss bud, good friends are hard to come by these days and a dog can become your best friend over night

Man, that sucks. Had to do it half way through duck season last year, those were some long mornings looking down to see my buddy that wasn't there anymore. You probably won't want to at first, but get another one as soon as he moves on.

Sorry for your loss man.

Paleo sent me a pm about an idea to have a sticky thread where members can post photos and stories of dogs they've lost:

Poker, I'd like your dog to be the first one so feel free to post your dog's photo as well as a few stories you'd like to share.

Hate to hear this!!

Personally, Id say wait on getting another.
Best one I had ran ito a car crossing the street (he looked the wrong way lol)
I replaced him soon, and ruined what should have been a good dog because I was expecting too much from the pup.

Ive finally faced the realization, that they cant all be like Drake was, and try a little harder.

Its just hard to put all the time and effort getting one to a point that another was.

Rest assured, he's up there, where the ducks always fly, just waiting for HIS best friend.

Takes great great love to make so courageous a decision.

Sorry for your loss.

Relode was our gentle giant. He truly was the best dog ever. And the loyalty he had to Ron... Was incredible. A few years ago Ron broke down at the lake and had to swim back. When he got tired.. Relode swam around him in circles... Worried about him...... That last leg to the launch... He held in to Relode's collar and Relode helped him make it. That kind of love is unmatched. Best dog ever.
RIP Big Sexy

Just isn't the same watching tv and him not bring on his bed snoring. .... Don't reckon it ever will be.

^^That seriously made me tear up, I can't imagine the pain you guys are in. I have a 12 yo lab and can't imagine loosing him, though I know time is getting short with him. Most people will never understand the bond between these dogs and their owners.
