I feed live cats to my pack of pit bulls. Is that considered blood training?

 Re: blood dog training?
I have trained numerous blood dogs, the best thing to do is save some blood shot meat and freeze it. Thaw out little and put blood and some water in a big syringe. Start your dog with a constant stream of blood in a straight line to a pile of meat. Always leave a reward at the end of the trail and always let trail set for awhile before you turn dog on it.

I agree with what he said...I have a bloodhound and I've trained her with deer hide and deer blood, drop blood every 4-6 ft and its easy as that.

 Re: blood dog training?
Ok, now we are on the same page. I am currently working up a 5 month old Drat for blood traling wounded game. Started her on short straight heavy blood and bits of hot dog about every 6". Lines are about 20' long and this was when she was 9 weeks old. Do once a week and for the first few weeks and get them a little longer each time. Last track I laid was with a piece of moose hide with blood on it. Did 6- 90 Degree turns and ran it about 300 yards. No problem for her to get to the end.
I know JD on this form has done some of this and he is in the New Orleans area. Duckdon

 Re: blood dog training?
Most dogs have the ability to blood track. I would use a 30 ft lead with a heavy collar every time you practiced the blood track. This will help the dog tell the difference between blood trailing verses tracking a cripple duck or bird. Start slow with short tracks, slowly making them longer. Be sure the dog is calm and not to excited. You can get cow blood from the local butcher. Be sure to leave a hide and a treat at the end. I use a white bucket with a white tail hide attached to the bucket. I use a spray bottle to lay the track. If you use this technique, you will need an old blender to spin the blood clots out. Otherwise it will solidify in your spray bottle. Be sure to have the spray bottle set on stream and not mist. Hope this helps and good luck.
