 hyper black lab
I have a huge male black lab 120lbs and 3 years old . He is a great dog not near water. He walks around the day care kids and doesnt even bump them over, he lays down and lets them crawl all over him. but when he gets to a crick pond or river he is absolutly crazy! he fetches until he can barly swim no more and then digs in the sand then goes for a swim by him self i do not throw the dummy for him. if you make a gun noise with your mouth or a mallard call he runs to the boat or truck and barks. any buddy no what could mello him down? i have tried a bark collar and shock collar but it does not seem to work. please help!

 Re: hyper black lab
Did you do any obedience or training w/ him as a puppy? Does he sit still and quiet when hunting? Does he retrieve your birds?

 Re: hyper black lab
Obedience is more than sitting sometimes and staying sometimes. I have a male w/ an extremely hard head and it took a few ass-whippings that I was almost ashamed of to get his attention. He will listen to me now. If he sits and hunts and doesn't disrupt or flare birds and brings back what you shoot...what else do you want him to do? If he is barking while you are hunting or working birds you may need to try a little attention getting. An obedience class for you and your dog may get you all you need. Controlled energy & enthusiasm is what makes great dogs. Good luck!
