I am going to get a 5 month old yellow lab puppy and was wondering if there is anything I should know. I am gonna train her myself with a buddies help which has a chessie that he trained and she is excellent. If there is any tips or tricks y'all could help me with I would really appreciate it!

I read water dog and I just liked the wildrose kennel and the duck dog basics DVD a lot better, I'm not much of a book reader and I skipped a lot of the book cause he rambled on a bunch it seemed to me. Just my .02

Try a Harness more control with out choking the sh-- out of him. Walk fast and in control keep him tight at heel postion. With in a few weeks you can go back to a collar. Good luck.

4 months old she's just getting started. Buy Smartworks, the whole series and start with the puppy dvd. Waterdog is pretty outdated and there easier and faster ways.

I just put mine on a regular collar, not a choke cooler, and she did that the first 2 or 3 times.. But I just kept saying heel and when she got where I wanted, removed the pressure and told her good girl.. Worked good for me.

I ordered water dogs the other day and started reading it and got tired of reading about random crap that had nothing to do with training my dog. I don't care about all the crapy dogs he's hunted with or how many times he says this books not for field trials or how many times he compares different dogs, I just want some pointers on better ways not a bunch of blah blah blah. So like usual I just ordered a DVD instead.
