Post subject:  free to a good home

I live in the middle of nowhere and when I got home last night I stopped at the mail box on the way to our place and expected to be greeted by the closest neighbors little rat terrier like always, instead this little bundle of fur jumped out of the darkness and up on me. Checked with the neighbor who said he picked her up at our place earlier in the day, thought it was a stray and dropped it off at his brothers a mile or so up the road thinking he might be a sucker for a new pooch, she must have followed him back to his place. Knowin we have a huge pack of coyotes running round I decided to take her home. I sure hope no one dumped a beautiful pup like this off to fend for itself as we have nothing but cane fields, woods and swamps around us. If we can't find the owner within 2 weeks I will either look for a good home or let the little fart stay, she has already made herself quite comfy. Goober seems to approve so far. I'm guessin 4-5 months old and looks to be a pure chocolate lab to me and seems to be housebroke at that. *UPDATE* could not find her owner, so she is free to a good home.

Cool! Nice looking dog. Nice of you to show her some kindness. I'm sure she appreciates it :)

If you decide to let it go there is NOLA lab rescue group. CMILLER73 is a member of the group and on here. Contact me also, I have a few buddies looking for labs we can find it a home for sure!

Give the hound? That son of a gun was't free and hasn't lived on sunshine and clouds since we got him  He is still on the fence at this point, just seems REALLY REALLY dense. Doesn't seem to respond to avg behavioral correction problems. We just keep trying with him, good dog in there somewhere.
I used to work at a humane society and volunteered with several dog rescue groups myself, I realize finding her a home if thats what we do won't be a problem at all. She's really a very good pup. I hope she belongs to someone local, but there really isn't many houses with 2 miles of us, maybe 6 at the most. At the moment the two of them are playing non stop, she holds her own pretty good against Goober, she's a tough lil shit.

There was a thread about bloodhounds recently. I know cootslayer has one.

yea I started that thread, more owners here then I thought there would be too. I looked into the bloodhound rescue groups and they wanted $250-$400+ for dogs who may only have a year or so to live, some fairly serious health issues etc I can't imagine what a registered Bloodhound would cost with any sort of lineage. The little lab is doin great, gonna start to put up flyers at the closest stores and check with the few neighbors we have. These two have been playing non stop

Hehe. Sorry;)

Flyers might work. I know some people who have used Facebook to spread the word too-either that they have found a dog or lost theirs. I don't really do FB, but I sure would if I lost my dog! Funny that no one is looking for her. Like you said, she has to be from nearby. If not, she'd be in much worse shape. Makes me tend to think she was abandoned, and is therefore, your gift from the dog gods;)

Mudman, can you give me specifics of where she was found? Like street address? I can post it on FB and see if I get some hits from the shelters if people called in looking for her.

If need be I can see if NOLA can take her in. I'd take her but I have a black male foster now and my 2. No room for another. I can see who would be available between Laf and Houma to take her in.

I'm gonna check with my GF. She wants a dog, and I want it to be a lab... All she cares about is that it's female. She probably won't go for it, but I'm still gonna check.

My Slampiece did. We're gonna trade dogs during duck season if I can get this one to retrieve ducks. She's been wanting her own dog for months, and I've been trying to talk her into a lab, so this works!
