When is the right age to send a lab to school. I was planing on sending him at 6 months old but the trainer called yesterday and said I could bring him at 5 months old. Is that to young to send him to school? |

I like them at 4 months bc it a good month to get used to the new structure and enviroment and gives u time to take them out everyday and play and at 5 months start the basic obedience that way it's completed by the time there adult teeth have come in and start with hold and move into force fetch Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

He is 3.5 months old and is sitting and laying when told and is retrieving on land and water pretty decent. |

Just wondering why are you sending him to a trainer and not training him your self sounds like you are on the right trail? |

The way ive always been able to tell if a dog is ready to start training is when the dog is playing or doin his own thing whistle at him or call him if he looks at you like he is interested he is ready if he ignores you and keeps playing hes not ready . . . I personally think the sooner u start the better. My current dog was in the blind hunting and actually retrieving at 6 mon old |

He will be 9 months when I get him back from the trainer and it will be the start of duck season. So it worked out well. |

Sounds good . . . he is still gonna have a lil puppy in him u jus gonna hahve to keep him straight and the secret to havin a good dog is having patience and persistance . . . My dog hit his year an a half rebellion stage during this last huntin season but we worked thru it and had him straight by the end of the season. . . Wound up makin 250+ good retrieves by the end of the season |

He is going to go for 3-4 months before the season starts. Then I'll hunt him all season and after duck season is over he will go back to school for handle signals and blind retrieves. |

6 months is a good age. If you are not set on a certain trainer I would suggest Y-Farms in Zachary, La. My dog was giving me ten kinds of hell a few years ago and she had him obeying and well trained in one month. In six months she could have him hunting like a champion. There is several outstanding trainers in Louisiana though. |

I'm sending him to josh Lansdale in Alexandria, la. I talked to a few other trainers and he answered all my questions and would actually answer the phone when I called. My dog leaves next month for school. He'll be 5 months old then. |

where you sending him to school? started basic obedience when i got mine at 7 weeks. by teal season she was on hand signals and a whistle (10 months old) by second weekend of first split i was pushing her 100 yrds plus (ya know those fly by ducks that are hooked up and then wind carried them in the water) it was a good thing she was force fetched properly and learned hand signals well bc she does not watch the sky and the majority of our blinds dogs cant see out of so its very important to have one good on hand signlals |

Y-Farm in Zachary is one of the best schools in the state. Send the Dog to Jennifer at Y-Farms and she will turn him into a champion. She is unbelievably talented |
