My wife informs me I now own a 9 month old English pointer dog. I've never even seen one before let alone know anything about them. Has anybody owed or worked one before. I'm thinking deer pointer cos I already have a nice duck dog. |

Very popular southern quail dog in the US. Famous line Elhew. A lot of purists use pointers to find and point birds and a retriever to retrieve. They don't want their dogs breaking point. They're not known as a versatile pointer that also retrieves (e.g. GSP or wirehair) |

I've got three on the couch with me as I type. Great dogs but not usually as smart as other hunting breeds. They like to run and require a fair amount of excercise. One of mine will retrieve a quail to hand nearly every time but the other two not so much. |

Lots of energy and they require lots of exercise... They are big running dogs, and can cover lots of country in no time.. Lots of field trial guys train them here on our sharp tail grouse and partridge during the summer months and then head south after it cools off to hunt quail.. |

Do they have a good nature? Good with children? I've got a couple of young kids and the Spaniel fits right in, the wee fella is 10 months and just thinks shes a teddy bear. Never hunted quail, some of my mates have but from what i understand is that there is a good numbers around Central Otago, Phesant and Chakcar (hope i spelt that right) |

Pheasants and chukar. Most of the pointers I have been around have been nice playful dogs although my grandfather had one that would growl at him from time to time. All of my dogs are females if that matters. |
