Have to brag this mornin..The pup is doing great.. Four retrieves this Mornin, only one of which was marked. We were also hunting thick ass buck brush which worried me at first because it makes hand signals nearly impossible. But I released him and he never checked up, disappeared into the thick and a couple minutes later emerged back out with a big ole fat greenhead. He's 3 months shy of a year and a half and has all the drive in the world. Well that's all for now. I'll updateImageUploadedByTapatalk1385826659.486032.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1385826691.172521.jpg pics as the season goes along.

Well since my last post I've only been able to hunt twice. The huntin close to
Home has been slow so Gump only has 5 more retrieves under his belt. He's marking birds prior to shot better and better each hunt and also understands the concept of the hunt better each time outl. My alarm
Went off this Mornin and as soon as the kitchen light came on I could hear him fumbling around in his kennel
With excitement. It's rainin like a cow pissin on a flat rock but I'm
Pretty positive we'll be able to scratch out our 8 mallards. I'm the first one awake this Mornin so I figured I'd update Gump's first season status while I drank my coffee and waited on the mornin shit to hit
Me. Good luck to you fellas huntin this am and be safe out there.

Had one of those hunts that will never be forgotten this morning. It was just me and Gump tucked away in a little hole surrounded by buckbrush and cypress trees.. I had my 4 mallards by 7:20 but that wasnt even close to being the good part. I had the opportunity to sit in the hole for another 2 hours and work dozens more mallards into the decoys. Around 930 I had finally gotten tired of Gump givin me the stink eye for not shooting so we packed it in. The pup did great and had one difficult blind that he nailed, which just added a little more icing to an already overloaded cake. I do apologize for all the bragging, I'm just having a blast with this big ole
Pup and wanted to share..

A couple pics from this Mornin:

Well it's been a while since I've posted up an update and some pics of ole Gump.. He's had a great year and has hunted in a lot of different scenarios. I've watched him grow in the past few months from an eager, sometimes over-zealous pup that loved working to a focused, purpose driven dog. I couldn't be happier and i owe a majority of the fondest memories from this season to him and his hard work.

Great looking dog. I don't think I would hunt ducks without a good dog. You guys are only allowed 4 birds as a limit?

Btmanin, where'd you get that pirogue? Is that a flat transom on the back?

Screw Gump. You're posting those pics of dead Mallards to piss me off, aren't you.

I appreciate the kind words fellas. He loves what he does for sure. The pirogue is a pintail duck boat. Made in Batesville ms (if they are still made)

Haha Yup, just to get under your skin dean.

Post subject:  Re: Meet Gump

It's a buddy of mine's. Handles a lot like any other pirogue. Drafts shallow, like I said super lightweight, tippy(but not quite as bad as your standard pirogue) he primarily uses it to cross a creek to get to a couple holes. I own a regular ole glass pirogue and wish I had that trollin motor transom back there sometimes.

Looks like he is shitting in the water in the first pic. Smart dog. My Cheesie Cali Swag does the same. I beat her ass for shitting on land when there is water near. bc it smells so bad. As long as there are no floaters we are in good shape lmao!

Me and Gump have been hard at it this season. I've been terrible about taking pictures. Especially when I hunt by myself, which I've done almost exclusively this season. But I've snapped a couple pics of Gump along the way. Hope yall like em.
