 Dogs and Scorpion Bites
We've been having to travel about 3-4 hours south to get on numbers the last 3 weeks and have been staying at a fish camp that rents cabins. Saturday night at about 2 AM my dog was sleeping on a blanket on the floor of my cabin and all of the sudden literally started screaming and running around the room. In a vodka blinded haze I woke up and checked him out and searched the floors of the room for a cottonmouth since the cabin is on the lake. I couldn't find anything, so I put my dog on the bed with me and turned on the tv so that I would hopefully stay awake so that I could watch him incase he started acting like he was snake bit. By 4:30 AM his breathing calmed down and he seemed ok, but wouldn't let me touch his tail and he showed absolutely no interest in going hunting and that's really weird for him. I ended up going hunting around 5 AM but wished that I hadn't, we killed a bunch of birds, but the whole time I was hunting I was thinking that I was going to come back to the cabin to a dead dog. He was fine when we returned, but the first 5" of his tail was swollen and he kept it pointing straight down. I've talked to a few people about it and they all said scorpion bite. Currently his tail is less swollen, but not 100%, and he's wagging it and is in his usual demeanor and active. Does anyone have any experience with scorpion bites and how did the dog react?

 Re: Dogs and Scorpion Bites
Rootsumm, I was bit on the neck by a scorpion carrying a sheet of plywood, I think I yelled and ran around like your dog . I threw up and my neck swelled but then the pain went away and I was fine. Your dog should be too. On another note , I got stung by a puss caterpillar this summer and thought I was going to pass out from the pain. Keep your dog and yourself away from those for sure, I'm scared to death of those now.
