Took a two year old rescue I've been working with on his first hunt. Didnt knock any down but he did pretty good for first ever exposure to a boat and hunt.

"Took a two year old rescue I've been working with on his first hunt."

First of all, good for you in taking on a rescue. 8-)

In addition, it isn't all that often a rescue is all that lucky to be in a situation
where he will be doing something all that cool. The photos seem to suggest
that he likes it.

And last of all, there are many, many things about taking a dog hunting that
have nothing to with just shooting ducks. I'll bet he learned a lot on this first
hunt. I'm betting there will be many more that will be great times for both of
you. Thanks for posting the pictures!

My youngest went on his first hunt a few years ago. Here's a read to that
morning's event. It was a lot of fun for both of us. Gunny learned a lot..and
we never shot a single duck. ;)

To funny. Guess I need to clean my glasses. I thought your dog was wearing a camo vest. Have fun with your dog. He is a lucky mutt. Don

Great looking GSP!!
I think if he didn't chew the blind down, you had a win!

Of course it would have been better with a bird down, but take what you can get..............and good luck next time

Can't teach them if you don't take them

For being a rescue he definatly seems interested in what's going on in the pics you posted... It's not a big deal that you did not kill any ducks for him to retrieve.. It's all about the experience for him and looks to me like he is coming along nicely... Keep it up, the more times you hunt him the better he will get..

Thanks for the comments guys. He is a major work in progress. I took him from owners at 2yrs he had been chained in back yard his entire life, never off chain, and never fooled with. He was heart worm positive and they would not treat him.

He had absolutely ZERO birdyness when I got him. I took him to my trainer just to do some hard core obedience and basics with him and he was able to bring out the hunter in him. Took about 2 months but he started going ape shit for anything with feathers on it. So I and the trainer have been working on getting him ready. He is far behind where most dogs would be at this time but he has a lot of life catch up to do and is progressing.

Don't think he will be as good as my other GSP, she is a machine. But he has come along way.

I was pleased with his hunt he was very attentive, got excited and extreamly focused any time a pelican or bird flew over pond (which was a lot). Tossed him a few bumpers while it was slow and when he got restless at about 9am I packed up and came home before he got too bored.

And AKA, you never got nothing good to say. I know some people on here think you are a awesome ass dog trainer but I've had several conversations with you about dogs this year, especially about heart worm prevention, and you are a moron with a piss ass poor attitude. I wouldn't let you shit in the same yard with my dogs I don't care how many grand passes you got.
