Ok so I haven't made the time to properly train my dog for the hunt. He was kicked out of on mans training because he is a howler. (Hates being separated from you so he howls not barks). So far all I had time to do was obedience (which we are still working on) and force fetch. As well as marks. He didn't do well in the blind (got fidgety) and retrieved a decoy. Not the best. we didn't see many birds so we decided to do a little marsh walking. We shot a couple and he was able to retrieve for his first time. I have a long way to go he is 1 1/2 but I was proud of him any way. Sent from my bag phone. |

Either take the choke chain off while hunting him because it's dangerous to leave on, or if you have to have it on him to control him then leave him at home. |

First the way it's positioned is not to choke. It will pinch but as soon as the dog gets within command it releases. There is a proper way to use that collar. I don't use an e collar yet so he will have that on. He gets excited and needs a reminder every now and again to stay within command. As for the danger I hunt open marsh without timber for it to get caught on and he will only be sent on open retrieves right now. I hope to soon have him collar conditioned and trained well enough to not have that collar as a training aid. Sent from my bag phone. |

Make him a rock dog. It'll be much easier. Throw a rock to the spot you want him to go. My Rex is a rock dog. Throw a rock in the general direction of a duck and he'll find it. He's fine if he sees a bird go down, but he's about 50/50 on a blind retrieve using only hand signals. But supplemented with the rock method he's almost perfect. |

No such thing as not using a collar as a training aid. How do you correct the dog when it's 100yrds away, run out there? By the time ya get there the dog will forget why he is being corrected |
