I will be bring her to the vet tomorrow morning. But for now just wanted to see if this has happened to anyone as its killing me to see my dog down like this.

A few hours after being home from a morning hunt i noticed she started limping and immediately seen her paw was swollen, i was able to shave the hair and see her skin was red and swollen near the middle. got her to let me open up her paw from underneath, then that's when i noticed a stinky yellow discharge. I want to believe its puss, but it seems kinda quick to already to discharging puss. However, i cant find any type of substance or cut.

any suggestions to maybe help it until tomorrow?

My dog had interdigital cysts. I battled it for YEARS. He was on cephalxyn (sp?) antiobiotic. I did soaks using warm water, epsom salt and iodine and the best thing that worked was DMSO and murpricin (sp?).

Anyway, i hope it's not that.

Any necrotic spots showing up?

Not that I can tell. I just took a picture, it looks horrible and now even Bleeding from her licking it.

The yellow discharge is on the direct underside of the red spot.

This freaking sucks.

Man I know this does suck. Have you checked to see if there is something stuck
In her foot? If there's something lodged in there it will get infected right quick (like within a few hours) and cause discharge.

I really want to believe something is. I hunt marsh and where we were, had a good bit of small roso cane. I've tried multiple times to see if there was something. But I think the wound is up under her foot between her pad and webbing so I can't pull her pad out the way enough to see anything. Probably going to have to numb the area to look better.

Yea.. Call your nearest emergency vet and see what the strongest pain medicine is that you can safely
Give her. I'd keep an eye on it for a little while tonight because if it continues to swell your probably going to need to take her in. Infection (especially something getting worse this quickly) ain't no fuck around deal. I'm not tryin to worry you more than you need to be. But you gotta keep those paws in good shape. Nothin happens without them

I was told aspirin is about the only medication for pain otc until I can get to the vet. The swelling hasn't gotten worse however when I just checked her foot again that bulge is softer and leaking a little fluid. I'll be keeping an eye during the night and first thing when the vet opens the door she will be there. Thanks for your responses.

Swelling went down over the night which allowed me to spread her paw open more and see what's going on.

Yikes

Looks like she got a cut and it got infected. They are tough as hell but infections in the foot have got to be painful. The vet will straighten you out and she will be back up and running in no time is my guess

How'd everything turn out at the vet?

Sorry for the late response. I opted for an xray while I was there just to make sure no metal object or bone issues were present. Of course came back good. Vet was happy to see I did my best to keep the wound clean which made his job easier to diagnose. Went with indeed an infected cut. Gave me 10 days of antibiotics. No stiching required and as stated before dogs are tough as nails and in due time she should be healed up.

Another positive note she is acting like her good ol self today

Thanks again guys
