 Dog Box Under Bed Cover?
I got a new truck this season and it has a bed cover. I didn't think I would like it at first but its nice for leaving extra decoys and gear locked up. My kennel is too high to hide under the cover so I have to leave a couple sections folded back when its in back of the truck and I put it on top when I lock everything up at the landing and i just used a junk kennel so i didnt have to worry about someone stealing it. I want to build an aluminum dog box that fits under the cover so I can lock everything up at the landing. My truck is a new style f250 I'm wondering if the box would be high enough for the dog. My dog is a smaller lab. Have any of yall ran a short box like that?

Re: Dog Box Under Bed Cover?
I've seen them custom built for smaller dogs around here, beagles, rat terriers etc. Only problem is if your dog is tall enough, it's a pain in the ass to get in and out of. As long as they get in and lay down its usually fine. Make sure it's wide enough the dog can lay down with room to stretch out if you make any long drives since he may not be able to stand up. Also, make sure it's ventilated under there. I do know of one case where a dog was killed from carbon monoxide under a bed cover... Granted the owner went in the store and left the truck idling, it was an older truck etc... Just something to be mindful of.

Re: Dog Box Under Bed Cover?
Oh no man, I wouldn't close the cover with the dog under there. My cover is a backflip it folds forward in sections. I drive with two sections open for him now, I just want to be able to lock my stuff up with the kennel under it. I'm mostly wondering about if he needs standing room or if I can just make up for it with the width.

Get a topper and you'll solve all your problems and wonder how you ever did without one!

Re: Dog Box Under Bed Cover?
I have a similar cover on my truck. I don't think a dog box would work too well with it... I agree with MNG, a bigger camper type topper would be ideal but some don't like the look. I wouldn't mind one except for the fact I'd keep it filled up with junk, my bed cover is bad enough LOL.

Re: Dog Box Under Bed Cover?
Thanks I'll probably just build one and see how he likes it, then sell it if it's no good for my dog.

Re: Dog Box Under Bed Cover?
Just for reference your bed floor to under neath of cover is about 19" on that truck. Give an inch or so for materials and room to clear the cross bars. I'd see if the dog would be too hunched at that height. Also you may want to try to load your dog in with the tailgate down to see if he is ok with loading in a shorter area.

Re: Dog Box Under Bed Cover?
What if you built a box that when layed on its side would fit under the cover? That way dog would have plenty of room and you would still be able to lock up.

If you are going to build custom, why not one that collapses. I see one where the bottom slips inside the top. or you could buy one of these.. http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=Alu ... tedIndex=6
