 grab bar
Any Ideas on installing a grab bar on a boat. Thought about making my own, and have looked at some of the mud boat manufacture options, just looking for a cheap and easy route. I was also thinking about installing a 360 degree rotating spotlight on the grab bar, just thought it might be a little easier to get around instead bow lights. I also realize the hardhat light option and just dont think thats for me. Sorry if this is retread obviosly I'm a newbie.
Thanks

 Re: grab bar
As for the grab bar, mounting all depends on whether you have gun or half boxes to mount it to, or whether you will have to fab up flanges / floor plates. You want those things to be secure because there will be a time where hanging on that thing will keep you in the boat.
A light mounted on a grab bar is a bad idea. When shining it forward, you will illuminate everything inside the boat that is in front of the grab bar, effectively night-blinding you from the glare. Lights on the very front of the boat are the way to go, as are hardhat lights, which tend to have a focused beam.
Welcome to the board.

 Re: grab bar
What he said ^^^^ X2. If you only want a single, rotating spotlight, get a Go-Light mounted up front on the bow. They're kinda pricy and are not as high cp as some other available options, but they don't take up much space. Personally, I'd go with a pair of 100w off road lights with a plastic or polymer housing, and either mount them on the bow, or on a removeable bracket. DO NOT skimp on the grab bar. If you're gonna spend the time to do it, do it right. Not to be a smart azz, but what's the point of spendin the time to put a cheap, half azzed grab bar in that's gonna break loose on ya when you're in a bind and really need it? I made the same mistake a few yrs ago, hit some bad stuff and when I latched onto the grab bar, it came off in my hand. Trust me, not a good feelin.

 Re: grab bar
GoDevil makes a stong and easy to install grab bar. hit a rib when you bolt it down with self tapping screws, and you're good to go.
