 Go Devil Surface Drive opinion
In my neck of the woods Mud Buddy seems to have it all sewn up. Not too many guys running Go Devils SD . I currently own a GO Devil 16LT, and have dealt with their CS dept and am very happy.
I am going to look at a used 35hp SD (Not sure the year yet) and would appreciate any and all experiences with that motor.
Thank in advance.

Re: Go Devil Surface Drive opinion
Kind of the opposite here... Majority of the SDs that run my area are GDs with PDs running a close second and just a few MBs and GTs...
They each have advantages and when paired with their own hulls will make most users very happy...
I chose the GD due to the simpler more reliable design and dealer support...
I run hard thru tough stuff to get to my spots and want a rig that will also get me back reliably... Without worries about switches relays and accessory failures... 150 hours this year - 5 oil changes and half a tube of GD grease in the shaft and still looks and runs like new... I am now running on my third prop - sand and oysters are hard on props... And except for one time when my water seperator filled up with water and had to be "dumped" - it hasn't missed a beat or needed any repairs, it just runs...
Because I don't like to "de-roost" my hunting areas - I like the quiet stock mufflers design and once I get to my area - which is 6 to 12 inch deep - the motor's job is done - we put out and pickup decoys on foot or using pushpole if bottom is soft - so I find no need for reverse...
Like every stock Briggs you may get a case gasket leak - mine started to "weep" at about 100 hours - but if you get the better metal gasket swap in your warranty period you are good from then on...
At 200 hours plan a new rear seal replacement and possible shaft replacement if it has a wear groove - the parts are not that expensive and the GD guys can do it in just a few hours...
At 400 hours a new belt and U-Joints and second rear seal and possible shaft replacement if it has a wear groove...
Good Luck - hope that helps !

Re: Go Devil Surface Drive opinion
No secret, I'm a MB guy, but a buddy of mine got an 1860 GD with a 35 GDSD and it's actually quite impressive. If GD would offer a clutch, or at least power trim, I'd consider one myself. His motor is basically stock (has BPS throttle lever & MM exhaust) and will run right @ 28-29 consistantly.

GD is a good solid motor, if you find a way to break it let us know

For the most part the engines are the same across the board. Clutch, power trim, even reverse are nice but not necessary. Go demo all that you can and get the most HP you can afford.

Re: Go Devil Surface Drive opinion
Thanks for the info guys. THe motor I went to see was spewing grease out the bottom of the shaft. It was a little loose. It was a package deal, the guy wanted top $$...I passed.
