Whats the laws in Louisiana for say carrying pistols or .22s with rat shot in the boat for snakes and what not or things like that? And if so, are there conditions to when you can vs. cant? Poles, commercial fishing, blah blah blah. I cant find any reference in the regulations anywhere, which could mean no law against=no law at all. Could you give the reference too? Thanks.

I'm sure you can carry as long as you are within the regulations of the activity you are partaking. There is not a general rule saying yes, you can carry in your boat as an extension of your home, as a car. You just have to look into the regulations of your activity, they are there.

22's with rat shot you will be fine. driving a boat to your deer stand with a 30-06 opening day of bow season that's where you might run into problems. you could call but they might hang up on you and then when you drive up there in and get in their face about your question they might ask you to leave. well thats what they did to me

Not sure about the other stuff, but in Louisiana you can carry a firearm any where you want as long as it not concealed. Concealed meaning on your person or in a back pack etc. you are carrying on your person. Believe it or not you can walk done Main St. with a gun strapped to your side as long as its not concealed your O.K. With that being said if you try this every COP around will be harrassing you and doing checks on you and your gun. The 2nd Amendment is a wonderful thing, its only the liberal states that adopt these forked up laws about guns. Also a gun in your gun box or gun case would not be considered concealed.

Im just looking to try and find when you can and when you cant have a pistol in the boat with rat shot and during what activities etc etc. I know theres got to be places and times you cant. The problem is I just cant find a document anywhere thats even closely relative to this subject.

I actually have taken a concealed carry class however I didnt think about this at the time. My question was about times like stated in LA state regulations "Possession of firearms while taking or hunting frogs at night is prohibited.". Things like that. I would not be able to possess a firearm in the boat regardless of caliber/shot. Would I be able to posess a pistol in the boat while waterfowl hunting, times like that. I was just looking for instances like this to avoid any problems.

The duck hunt question was simply an example, however I do know some people that essentially duck and deer hunt at the same time. Im not sure of the legality of this. Whether you can carry a rifle in the boat for the taking of big game or whatever.

well ya not going to duck hunt with a rifle or deer hunt with a steel shot so i would think ur okay but u can not have lead with in reach of u during duck season , <dove hunting then teal hunting > but i would call the game warden and check

We see deer out of the duck blind all the time. However, am I correct in thinking one would be safe possessing a high powered rifle while duck hunting and taking the deer thinking that lead shot only would relate to shotshells. One couldnt carry buckshot to take the deer of course.

may only use ONE weapon..... LA might be different cause in
the "Duckmen" videos I have seen ole Phil drain down one
shotgun and snatch up a second one - and throw down on
a deer with a rifle while duck hunting..... Both illegal here
in Texas - not sure bout over in LA....

All you need to know is where you can get away with it, and where you might get caught.

A game warden informed me a few years back that you can not carry any firearm in the boat while frogging.

I carry at least my one of my .22 pistols the second my feet hit the back porch and I plan on goin out back or out in the boat. I came upon some teenage boys near my jug lines, kinda caught them by surprise, they were VERY polite and well mannered and after that, I stopped endin up with empty lines on the weekend. That hog leg on my hip must have impressed them lol

Louisana seems more laxed then Texas and in Texas you can carry in your car, boat, etc concealed without a CHL as long as you are "traveling". It is an extension of the castle doctrine. The traveling part is up to the interpretation of the peace officer but if your respectful and not breaking the law they shouldn't give you a problem. So in lousiana I would think it's similar. Maybe contact a CHL instructor in your area.

game laws are worse than regular laws when it comes to inturpritation. there is always one law that works against another where one will say its legal and another will say its not.

so many people feel like its ok to break the law as long as you dont get caught. this is the problem with the country today. that mentality. the law or most of them are for the safety and security of the public. these are not made just to put people in jail. they are to keep the public and property safe. its against the law to speed. not to get fines but for public safety. its against the law to steel. not to put someone in jail, but to keep property safe. and so on. people need to remember what the law is for. as a 21 year leo i try to keep the above in mind when dealing with enforcment of the law. some officers have never thought about it or looked at it that way. you will run into tthe "its about the money or jail time" officers. at that point its a no win situation.

After reading everything I can find, its all so vague and condition specific, I believe its all gonna boil down to who you run into as far as a warden or leo. If they really wanted to, Im sure they could get you on an "intent to take" ticket on something obviously not the case. I perfectly understand what your both saying. However, I perfectly understand the open carry laws in general cases. This thread was more to the WLF regulations that would trump this in certain cases, and I was trying to figure out what these cases were.

I would think the open carry laws would trump the fish and game boys unless specific places, times of year, times of day and night apply to firearms in the field. I'm glad I live out in the boonies, haven't so much as seen or heard any water cops around here

what bothers me most are laws that are nuthin but one big gray area. Lawmakers do this so it can be used against honest people to generate revnue and heres the kicker "its all up to the officers discretion". he's judge, jury and executioner and its all up to his mood and interpretation that day whether or not you get in trouble or fined. Laws should be easily understood without havin to go to college to be a lawyer. as far as I know, La is a open carry state, open carry is just that, should be legal anywhere regardless as long as it's displayed openly and holstered . There are of course common sense exceptions like public buildins etc and for the record I give LEO's all the courtesy and respect they deserve, but I pay taxes, am free, white and over 21, I'll open carry anytime I want if I see the need or hint of a need for it.

Dude, im 120% pro gun but this stupid Fin open carry movement is gonna fukk it up for all of us. Think about it from a cops perspective, a gut just walking down the street with a gun creates alarm for citizens and the police. You are gonna get stopped for good reason. The open carry advocates challenge the police and private businesses in a loose loose situation. What good does this do for the gn cause ? NOTHING. All it does is give he antis more ammo for gun control. It's legal to screem fire, but it would be illegal to so so in a crowded movie theater. Food for thought.

i was under the impression it is illegal to carry any firearm onto a wma while a hunting season is not open. I could be wrong though, anyone have any conformation on this?
