 My Redneck Rig
Really got to test my Boat today. I have a 1540 Aluminacraft Flat with a 16hp Go Devil Crawfish Tail on it. I started the day by going to Lake Waco here in Texas. I intended to scout out some fishing spots and find some good places to put the boat in. I launched on Lacy Point where we often ride horses and found I was a long way from the South and Middle Bosque Rivers where the best Sand Bass are caught. Boat was carrying me #240, two batteries, #30 pound Tackle Box, extra Water, two reels, and a troll Motor.
For speed I got 15.5 mph and I could could back the Throttle almost half and stay on plane. Found no good places to Launch that did not charge and found that the Middle Bosque is dry not far from where I normally fish.
We are in a severe drought here and I have lost a bunch of Prime Fishing spots because they have literally dried up. It was 105 today but it did not seem quite as hot on the water. I ran 3 gallons of fuel and had no trouble with Boat or Motor.
I went home for Lunch and decided to fish late afternoon. We have access to one place that is a private lake has produced more big Bass than any other place. I knew it was not very deep and knew that I might have trouble putting the Boat in, if it was way down. I decided to take my Rhino to make sure we did not get stuck. My Diesel 3/4 ton Dodge is two wheel drive and will get stuck if someone pees in the road.
I hooked up the Utility Trailer behind the truck carrying the Rhino with the Boat behind. We got to our spot and found the Lake totally dry. I could not see any place that had actual water in it. On this same place there is another Lake and we have never caught many fish in it. Since it was too late to go anywhere else we put in. We Launched in 8" inches of Water and traveled through some water that was even more shallow. We hit a few stumps but the Motor had no trouble. We got to the Dam and saw big exposed Rocks. We fished this Dam and caught several fish including three Catfish on Spinners. Most everything was Keepers.
The Property Owner saw my Truck and had to know how I got my Boat in and out. He looked over the Motor pretty close. Mud Motors here are rare. This killed a lot of our Fishing time. We loaded up with no problems and had a good day other than losing another Prime Fishing spot. Bass in this Lake were especially big. Two years ago we fished this Lake and took home 35 with one 8# several 6 and an average size of 3 to 4 pounds. Now it is totally dry.
This is my Redneck Rig.
