How should I connect the cables from my motor to new ones , so I can move my battery to the front. Don't really want to salder them. Would like to bolt them together and shrink wrap. Let me know how y'all had success. Thanks

To avoid any corrosion issues I would make a new set of cables the proper length instead of splicing them.

You could make the connection on a battery shutoff switch or a high amperage buss bar, if you have a place to bolt them down. Just coat the connections with corrosion X or CRC HD corrosion inhibitor and it will be fine. All those crappy little automotive grade connections on the engine will corrode out long before the battery connection will.

They do make butt crimp connectors up to at least 4 gauge (maybe 2). They look just like regular butt connectors with the plastic casing and all. I think they are made by Noble but the only place I've ever found them is the Sureway Grocery in Grand Isle, LA. I've used them before and put liquid electrical tape in the back of each side of the connector. You could also heat shrink it after that.

Now this is defintely a ni**er rig and the Boat Dr. wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole, but with the price of wire these days it might be a short-term option. Especially if you already have some extra wire laying around.

Do y'all have west marine in your area? They sell terminal made for this with weather boots that are color coded for positive negative etc. Use em in my boat and they work great. About 4$ each

I had my cables extended to the front in my former 1548 Alweld, the dealer did it upon new outboard installation about 4-5 years ago. I just broke it down and sold boat, splice connections were big brass ring terminals, with stainless bolts connecting them, all very heavy duty thick shrink wrapped, in perfect shape. Never had one bit of trouble, but it was done right from the start, and worked great with 25 & 50hp motors.

Any electrical supply house has compression crimps made by burndy. Assuming that your cables are #6 you would use YC6C6. Or you can use burndy butt crimps suited for #6. After u crimp wrap with scotch 130c rubber tape then heat shrink. Follow these steps n this will reduce the chances of having a high resistance short in the future.

This is what I did for my boat. I went and boutght 6 gage jumper cables that were 16' long. cut the clamps off and crimped on terminal ends to each. This way it would carry the load and also have no worry about any soder or crimps ever coming undone. Just a idea to think of

Think about the money you are spending on splicing it.

A little more and you could have it done right.

Just run new cables to the front of the boat
