 Hookin up to the Governor?
On my build when i hooked up the throttle I found that the arm on my honda clone was sticky and hard to throttle up even with the arm screw backed out all the way. I heard of people taking the governor off of the motor in their builds just for that rpm jolt to help out their struggling longtails. I considered this but then wondered if i could just hook up to the governor arm? So I tried it and she purrs at idle and screams at WOT. I got a tiny tach on it now and it says I can hit 5200+ without even really goosing it out of the water. ill have to check in the water and report back, but i was wonderin if this could do any damage besides over revving the engine..... I know I shouldn't have it hooked up that way but the governor is still present in the engine so should I go ahead and just take it out or just keep going like I am. Its a 16hp and I can run about 17-18 mph on it unloaded. Not worried about speed so much as pushing a load and hopefully getting on plane with some guys and gear.

Re: Hookin up to the Governor?
The worst it can do is throw a rod.
Your valves aren't floating at 5200?

Re: Hookin up to the Governor?
the cam is spinning so fast the valve springs dont have enough pressure to open and shut the valves when they need to. in turn loosing power.
Afforadable go karts has a how-to for the linkage N-r racing for all sort of parts too

Re: Hookin up to the Governor?
swamp i replaced the valve springs in mine when i took the governor out so i wouldnt float the valves. its extremely easy takes maybe 10 minutes. then just adjust your valve lash to .004 its extremely easy and it only 20 bucks for new springs. its a cheap safe way to remove governor. there is stil the possibly the chance of throwing or bendin a rod but i run royal purple oil to help with lubrication and the engine i have is cheap anyways so i dont care and if i do mess it up the same place i bought the springs from has all sorts of stuff to rebuild that engine and make it a hoss. so i wouldnt be to worried about it.
