ABout to buy a 23HP LT go devil and a Xpress 1440 new package. Just looking to see if any of you guys are running anything similar. I thought of going with the 16HP but the 23 is in my budget. Is it worth it? Peformance numbers and how stable is it. Looking to get around with my son. I'm limited on size of boat for where I have to keep it. Any thoughts and opinions welcome. Thanks

If you are buying it all new PLEASE save some headache and get at least a 16' hull made for a mud motor ... Trust me.


As for speeds, I've never gps'ed it but it's probably near 20 alone and 15-16 with a two man duck load.

Like I said in the 1st post. I can't go bigger because of the size of the shed I have to store it.

1. Mud motor, not sand motor.
2. Mud boat not air boat.
3. If you don't get stuck you aren't trying hard enough.


And if you run stumps stay on plane where you can and you hit a lot less.

I'm buying this to bring my son frogging in the local lake. Mostly grass and hyacinth. Occasionaly on the deer lease when it floods, but this will just be pipelines that are clean. No logs. Do you think the price of the 23 is worth going with over the 16?

Yes.

The extra torque the 23 gives you is well worth the money.
A 16 and 23 are made off the same block, so the weight difference is very minimal.

i am running a 23 gdlt on my 14'x54 and alone i run around 21(with a pretty well worn prop) and around 17 with 2 people and some gear, also went and looked at a 16 before i ended up with my 23 and i promise you will be MUCH happier with the extra power

First MM was a 23 lt on a 1444 it got the job done but when I upgraded to a 1840 what a difference. Thing would carry a load like nobodys business. Kinda miss that boat some days. Is there a way to modify your shed to fit a 16 into it?

If I were to say it, yes.... but who knows.

I have a 1442 with a 24 (alot heavier than a 23) and it gives me no trouble at all.

CB used to have the same setup as me. It wouldn't plane and nearly took on water at the transom.

I have a home-made 16hp longtail and it's o.k. on my 15'42" duracraft, but after running a 13hp and 16hp, I think the 23hp would be bare minimum to keep me happy. The 16hp is just too slow for the speeds that I'm accustomed to. After running it all duck season, I'm not just hating my 16hp, but the 23 would sure be nice. The problem for me is-----anything above a 16hp is about triple the price. I only need mine for going through weeds as well.
BTW, don't cut off the throttle too quickly if your boat is a 15" transom, or water will likely come over the back. Just something you have to get used to.

14x40 is going to be very tippy, especially with a longtail, especially when making sharp turns at slow speeds. I would prefer a tall transom as well, it dont take much to swamp a 14 with a big ass lt hanging off the back. Theres so many variables that you dont expect when operating a LT.

Ive never had a problem with my 14x42 being tippy.
