Post Solid or hollow driveshaft?
Sorry for another driveshaft question. I'm working on my homemade longtail and I need to get a new driveshaft. I'm running a 1" OD shaft and that doesn't give me much clearance between it and the carrier tube.

I'd like to know, are the commercial longtails running solid or hollow drive shafts?

I see the commercial longtails have really small support tubes and obviously small diameter drive shafts. I'm wondering if they could be hollow.

My 1" OD shaft is hollow, and I'm guessing I'll go hollow on the 3/4" shaft.

Any input would be appreciated.

Greg

The smaller lt's run a 3/4 solid drive shaft and the bigger ones are a 7/8. I could see a hollow drive shaft twisting under load.

i dont think the amount of rotational force b/w the two would be great enough to beat having the added strength. go solid 3/4

bushings should be at top, middle and bottom of the housing.
the support for thw whole shaft and housing: you should have one long bar running from the motor to the bottom of the shaft(this supports most of the weight), two supports around the middle, and some support at the top. look at a picture and youll understand
