Post gator glide
ordered some gatorglide today after reading up on it, the owner actually called after i ordered it to make sure i understood how to apply and after discussing my application changed up my order for the new base coat which makes it more durable over a longer period of time, seems like a good product and company to deal with

I ordered some this past weekend to do some touch up. The owner has emailed me several time discussing how to apply it. He keeps me up to date on my order as well. Why can't everybody have customer service like gator glide?

I remove all of his posts about Gator Glide... If he would just reach out and communicate with Tony or Me so we can get him on board I bet a lot more people would buy his product instead we have to remove posts to protect those sponsors who actually pay.

Hey Guys, If you don't mind I could use some pictures of the application of the GatorGlide and GatorBase for the web page. Especially the boats that did not get flipped over to apply. It would help the new guys see how easy it is to apply and give them an idea of how to do it. You could email them to Gatorheads@comcast.net I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you

i will get some posted in a week or so, applied 3 coats of gatorbase on sunday afternoon, it has to dry 48 hours before applying gatorglide so i had to put it back on trailer this morning due to Issac coming this way.

built some A frames out of some #8 rebar i had laying around and used ratchet straps on all four corner cleats and picked it straight up off trailer, it was suspended about 18 inches off of the ground.

each coat of gatorbase dried in about 10-20 minutes, the gatorbase is fairly slick, going to have to have is secured good on the trailer for sure especially when i get the g2 applied.

thanks, we made it thru the storm, fine, no damage, actually only got high winds where i live thru the week and 1 inch of rain yesterday, but this morning (friday)we got a lot of rain and the actual storm is in arkansas now, we got up to 8 inches in just a few hours

do i need to scuff the gatorbase with sandpaper and wipe with acetone before i apply the gatorglide or just paint it on, plan to do it on saturday if weather is good

will get you some pictures then

Yes, give it a light sand with either 200 grit or a Scotch Brite pad and wipe with acetone real well then apply GatorGlide slick bottom. The GatorBase dries hard and slick itself so the surface need to be etched so the G2 or G4 will stick.

Thanks coot... Yeah I'm planning of getting another boat soon for season, but know I can't afford anything nice like y'all have.. It'll probably be an older Jon with a longtail. I've got a lot of stumps and hard bottoms. If gator glide may help me to conquer this better than what I already have, best beleive I'm investing in it.

Post Re: gator glide
I'm getting allot of questions about the GatorBase, what the coverage is and how to order.
We put together a GatorBase plus G2 Kit and a GatorBase plus G4 Kit primarily for Mud boats. This is the perfect bottom. Both kits come with a "1/2 gal of the Base and 1/2 gal of the Glide" making it a 1 gal kit. each 1/2 gal covers 100 sq ft 3-5 coats.
If you have a 17 X 48 you have 68 sq ft of bottom! You would be well served to put the whole 1/2 gal of GatorBase on but you would not necessarily need to put all the Glide on. Going over the GatorBase you could get by with 1/2 to 3/4 of the 1/2 gal of GatorGlide and save some for touch up.

If you have steel flex or similar on the bottom already you do NOT need the GatorBase. You would only need the GatorGlide G4 or G2.

Hmmm. I put the g2 directly on my roughed up bare hull and it's held up great.

I have a ribbed Beavertail... Thats what she said. I put some G2 on mine.
Here is an easy way to get it off the trailer and in the air. Open foldable ladder to the scafolding shape. Raise tounge jack up until the bow touches the ladder placed over top. Run a rachet strap thought the ladder to some tie off points. Lower the tounge... walla the front is in the air.

For the rear... Run engine hoist around back. Rachet strap to each back corner.

Jack it up. There you have it , floating boat.

I rolled around underneath it on a creeper. This worked out awesome and quick.

i would only mix it in small batches incase you dont need it all you will have some left for touchups

i mixed g2 with a drill, them poured 22 ounces in a paint cup and 4 ounce of hardner
mixed it with drill, then poured into a paint roller tray. seems like each batch did 1 to 1.5 coats or so

i put 3 coats and had some left for touchups later
can get paint cup at automotive paint supply stores or buy them at lowes

GatorGlide price increases as of tomorrow 9/19/12. Not my idea but the MFG raw materials gone up so they have done a price increase across the board.

Yeah, you have GOT to keep that bow line on. I left mine on once without the winch locked and it unspooled the whole thing. Luckily I was over the water when it slid. That stuff is amazing.
