Leave that ole boys nuts intact. If you do not plan on breeding him just be a responsible owner. Having that testosterone in my opinion give him an edge and drive.

Just don't let him hump your leg in the blind! LOL

I'm sure others are more experienced, breeders, or multiple dogs, but I had my Charlie neutered and he has plenty of drive. Would not hesitate to do it again. Just myu limited experience.

At least wait until he is out of Puppy mode.... IE let him hike his leg to piss.

My podna did that to his,,,

His dog was dog agressive like mines and he thought cutting him would fix it...Well all he accomplished is to make his dog gain about 20lbs...

Dog still performed well, but was always over wieght,,,and still dog agressive..

Thank y'all. I am not sure what I'm gonna do with him yet. I have heard if I am gonna do it, that it is best to do it before he gets too old.

Would you want your nuts cut off that early in your life. Imagine your self now if you had no nuts and never got any pussy.

On a serious note I would. I have female dogs and will always have female dogs. Them males piss on everything and hump even more. It really bugs me when someone brings a male dog around the camp, and my female can't get a break.

Post Re: Should I neuter him?
There's a whole lot of "information" about neutering......some good....much more
that is misinformed......and a little that is bias.

For your pup's sake wait at least until his growth plates are finished maturing. I have
two dogs that are neutered and "loosing the edge" was not a problem. Mostly a "real"
duck hunter tends to think his dog is more of a dog if he is intact.....this is a totally
bias opinion supported by what?

Do not think a dog's disposition is determined by just his hormones. He does what is
allowed and training has a huge impact on behavior. Some are more aggressive than
others, but it is more of a mental thing (which proper training can control). Cutting a
dog will not necessarily make them less aggressive. Most literature suggests, neutering
or spaying (if you have a female) will not really change the dog's performance or
acquired habits. I do know that both my neutered dogs are a lot easier to deal with
now that marking and "finding women" are no longer priorities.

My two females are spayed. The oldest was done after her second litter to avoid old
age uterine issues. The youngest was spayed to reduce huge, annoying hormone
induced "mental swings". Her middle name is no longer "ditz".

When it comes right down to it.......once the growth plate thing is out of the way
"It Depends!" more on the opinion of the owner rather than anything else. What you
want and expect are not always easy decisions. With a six month old pup.......you
should have time to "figure him out" before he is old enough (growth plates closed)
to make the final decision. Fortunately (or not), the dog doesn't get to vote. 8-)

Post Re: Should I neuter him?
I have dealt with alot that have been fixed and haven't been fixed
It comes down to personal preference. If you neuter him lets say at 6 months his head want be as blocky verses waiting till 24 months. Also he want hike his leg and mark everything
also a neuterd dog seems to be more focused on retrieving verses trying to smell everything that is around. It doesn't change their personalty or make them less hyper or dominant . But they want jump the fence to go a mile away to breed a female that is in season. If i can help give me a call and i will help with all my suggestions www.texasretrievers.org

If there was shortage of lab studs I'de say leave him intact..........in light of the fact that there are thousands of good lab studs.........neutered and spayed is the way to go for me.

Just my two cents.

It makes the bourbon go down easier not having to worry about another dog fighting with my males or mounting the females..........I can just relax in the afternoon and watch all the other guys kennel thier dogs (or not)
