 Whats it worth
Looking to possibly purchase the following motor. Trying to get an idea of a fair price. Any input would be appreciated:
2004 Mud Buddy 4000, 160is hours, Power tilt/trim, Mikuni Carb, BPS Stainless Crossover exhaust and 2009 32" outdrive, short transom
Whats it worth and what kind of speeds can I expect on a heavy 1854 jon boat?
THANKS

 Re: Whats it worth
based on what you describe above I wouldn't pay over $1700 for it. Any pics?

 Re: Whats it worth
have to be careful with the older balance drives. even tho it's a short transom motor, which the only difference is drove length, the 32" outdrive can still be to short on a short transom boat. I had problems with this on my first gator trax, the short transom for a 04 should have been 36 ". the 32 will probably work on a 15" transom height, but much taller will be a prob. good luck

 Re: Whats it worth
I've seen guys put the 40" outdrive on older hypers. You also need to consider how much it's goona cost to convert to new gears & belt tho. I'd shy away from it honestly.

 Re: Whats it worth
That old of a motor probably has the old trim rocker on the tiller handle and not the newer "football" style. Miserable to drive, but you can "upgrade" for around 300$.

 Re: Whats it worth
The old hypers used the same belt drive, but different outdrives to go from short to tall. They used a 36" on a short, & a 48" on a tall. Nobody does that today

 Re: Whats it worth
Thanks for the insight. In my search for a surface drive to replace my longtail, what should I be looking for?

 Re: Whats it worth
id buy any brand that was newer , low hours under 300 or so. Well how much you want to spend might be a better question lol
