 Stainless steel surface drive Would it be practical to build a 7hp surface drive out of stainless if cost was no issue? I have access to 316 stainless for free and was thinking of making the whole frame out of it . What do you think the minimum thickness for the pully housing should be?

Re: Stainless steel surface drive If your building one anyway, and it's free, and you can weld it, then use it. Won't hurt anything.

Re: Stainless steel surface drive If you go with stainless I wouldn't go any thicker than 1/8" stainless is heavy, and there's no way 7 hp will tear that up
