They are all assholes. Every last one of them!!

My theory and a good analogy:

If you have a frontline worker...say a welder...guy makes the best welds, he's your hardest worker, does everything good...you keep him out there in production.

You have another welder, he is always getting busted out, lazy, couldn't make a good weld to save his life, you have to redo everything he does and you are losing production...you make him a manager.

I know there are those that are gonna be under a desk somewhere trying to climb the ladder. Although i really dont undersyand it. I was brought up to work and thats what i do. Im not gonna kiss anyones ass to try to get in favor of anyone. You like me or you dont. I could give a shit. You can bet ill do my job the best i can and can guarentee itll be right. Thats all i got. But when the ass kissing and laziness gets in the way of me making my money we have an issue.

Start your own business for goodness sakes. If you are driven by pride and accomplishment you will do very well. We need more entrepreneurs not lemmings.

What's even worse is the lil douche bags that their daddy gets them their supervisor job. They usually don't know chit, & have that lil punk attitude that makes you want to knock em on their azz, but you know they just ain't worth it.

Supervisors should be the guys with alot of experience with all aspects of the job; technical, commercial, and leadership ability.

The best welders, fitters, machinists etc., may or may not have the commercial and business skills. Some do and some don't.

The best football coaches in both college and NFL were usually not the best players, but they do have the ability and experience to see the whole picture and lead the team.

I started off as an Intern at my current job, making less than the hourly's while I was finishing up my last semester of college. I worked my ass off, took every assignment that I could. Got my hands dirty and learned every skill that the hourly's perform in my process and within 2 months I was a supervisor trainee. 3 Months after that about a month before I garduated I was promoted to supervisor. Hard work goes a long ways, especially if you aren't in a sour mood all the time and bitching about it. May have helped that I spent 6 years in the Marines as well and have some leadership experience. Stay positive, work hard and more money/responsibility will come your way.

But the bottom line is that if all of you would be supervisors in your field, there would be some one else posting about you.

I dont want to be a supervisor even though i feel id be good at it. Dont want the headache and my ppl skills suck. I couldnt stand staying on ppl about not working and doing their job. Somebody has to do it though.

I am a supervisor of sorts.........and I think my owner is a duuche.
Just the way it is.

Grew his business from a million a year, dead ass almost closing the doors to 28.5 million.
And he sends me emails all day long about what I should read, what I should do, how I should lead.........pain in the ass.

You know what worse than supervisors? People who look down upon people because of age. I have talked to people on the phone who wanted my business. Until i should up and they realize how old I am. One literally said "How much can you possibly know about this stuff?. You're only what? 27-28"

Being a supervisor is challenging, i took a role and the most important thing is the people you are over used to be your partner as an assistant Operator. You just can't loose sight of where you came from, you have to keep their respect and also do a good job. Its a hard balance but very attainable

The owner of our company has told peaple that the managers dont need to know how to do the jobs of the peaple they are supervising they just need good peaple skills.

Some of the best supervisors we have are the ones that came off the floor. They know whats going on and will help you out...theyve been on our side of the fence. A few wks ago a supervisor was filling in off of another shift and remarked to me that he wished he knew how to do my job. I thought wtf, you're superviding me and dont even know what im doing? Crazy. Stupid.
