Post stability of go devil boats?
Anyone out there ever own a Go Devil boat? Are they stable for large lakes with 1' waves? A guy with a 1644 go devil boat told me he could literally stand on the edge of his and it wouldn't tip. I think he's full of shit but since I'm in the market for a new boat that is good in muddy marshes 90% of the time but still able to stand a few waves in open lakes from time to time without capsizing.

They are flat bottom boats... They will not be smooth in the waves but they are very stable.

get the hybrid v and that will smooth out the chop some. wider = stability x2 ...... 54" bottom is wide enough to walk the gunnel without tipping...... i guess that depends on how big a boy you are.

I used to walk on the gunnels on my 1644, but i agree that wider would be better.

I had a 18'x36" go devil and could stand on the side and not dip water and I am about 230 lb . but wider is better.

Was bowfishing some stingray flats one time at the coast and had the cross some deep water after the wind picked up in our 16x56. 3-4 footers. She did pretty good. I just matched the speed of the waves and rode right on the back of a crest.

Great thing about them is, when they sink, they only go about a foot underneath the water....thats what in told anyway.

I bowfish out of mine on the Ohio River. I concur with quackhunter and pintaildrake. My gd boat is in my signature. It is stable enough to stand on the side as team camo mentioned. It is not my plate boat however. My suggestion is this...if you are hunting/fishing where the waves are regularly one foot get a bigger boat however if its a one foot wave once in a while get the GD boat. I use my GDSD on the Ohio River to access backwater all the time. I however work/live on the river and know when to take the GD or one of my comm fishing plateboats in regards to the weather.
