Post Frozen throttle cables
It's 27 degrees F this morning and we have 3 inches of snow on the ground. All of our waterfowl are headed toward Canada and the lower 48 as fast as their little webbed feet will carry them. Now is the time for frozen throttle cables if you haven't replaced the water with WD-40 or anti-freeze. A friend that didn't replace the water came up with a novel solution. He had a pack of chemical hand and foot warmers in his "emergency" box and taped several to the cable. They thawed the cable out in a few minutes and since they stay active for up to 6 hours he had no problems the rest of the day. I know a lot of you have tried some novel solutions like urinating on the cable, heating water to pour over it, holding your cook stove under it and heating it with a lighter, but this lasts longer and isn't nearly as messy. By the way, the water usually collects in the low portion of the cable..... duh  I wasn't going to add that last sentence until I was asked: "that cable is almost 5 feet long where do you tape the heaters"?

Excellent advice. I keep a bottle of antifreeze in my boat with a syringe to inject into the cable. This year I gonna try spraying the cable with that new anti wet stuff by Rustoleum to see if that helps as well. We only need this once or twice a year here in Louisiana but the humidity is so high here that there's lots of moisture to freeze up in the cable.

I use the silicone spray as well . Seems to work ok. Of course it very rarely gets cold enough to freeze cables here.
