 making pods for my boat
i just got a 1436 jon boat and am building an 8 hp longtail motor for it. i have been looking up pods and the benifits of them online and think i want to put some on my boat. my dad owns a weld/machine shop and i'm a tig welder so the building of them is no problem. I just want to know what yall think about them and will it be a good idea to put some on there? will it really make a big difference in the performance on my setup? if so, how big or small should they be for that size boat and motor?

No need with that setup. They really dont help overall performance, albeit they help the boat float higher in the ass end when not under way.

I dont know much about the size it should be or anything but keep a record of materials, price, and labor hours. I may hire you to build me a set if you want. I know they make a set you can buy already made for the war eagle boats I believe. Google it and they might give u and idea where to start.

If you really want them you need to build them as big a possible without interfering with motor travel. You can google boyd welding or beavertail pods

Re: making pods for my boat
I would put them on if you had an 18hp or bigger motor weighing down your ass end. Pods I think would hurt your performance with that setup. How much you weigh?

Re: making pods for my boat
No need for pods with an 8 hp.. My 1436 only drafts 3.7 inches, and that is with a 16 LT

Re: making pods for my boat
Look into hunt deck instead of pods. Search longtail with hunt deck.

Unless you or your lab is sitting on the transom, it is completely unnecessary.
