 Round chime custom boat
Can they build a round chime using 3/16 or do they simply bend it 3 times. What works better.
Thinking of upgrading my boat for 2014

 Re: Round chime custom boat
Camo had unc j build him a round chine boat a while back. I want to say they bent in like 10x per side to create the round chine. Try to google team camo edition uncle J. It was years ago he did this. Not sure if it was 3/16 or not.

 Re: Round chime custom boat
havent been able to work on it much im putting on catwalks now got to brake lids for front deck and boxes. im still trying to decide on latches for boxes. im using rotary latches so everything is inside like a car hood latch. i also made my own seat bases flush with deck so turf will lay flat and no base showing

 Re: Round chime custom boat
Thinking of designing a new boat for running timber. Pointed bow, round chime.
Will use my 1854 for duck hunting on the lake. This boat will be smaller and more maneuverable. Pointed bow is the way to go in timber. Hit a couple of trees( Mostly due to current) and momentum. A pointed bow will remedy that.
Going with a 25 gtr on this one.

 Re: Round chime custom boat
My godevil sucked to turn at low speeds, I assumed it was because I had to lift the motor out the water and then it'd spin all over hell. Does a round chine still steer well when using a surface drive at low speeds?

You will hate a round chine idling through the woods.

 Re: Round chime custom boat
What would be the best in the woods then? All I've ever been in is a square chine and I can run it very well idling and about half throttle in tight areas.
Round is better at higher speeds right?
Is a triple taper any better? Seems like the same idea to me but less breaks than a round.

 Re: Round chime custom boat
Mine is triple tapered and tracks pretty well. Much better than a straight round. It's almost round in the back so it still digs in the turns pretty well, but it's got a pretty hard edge the further forward you go. At idle, there is quite a bit of square in the water. I don't know all the math that goes into it, but I've ridden in squares, rounds, single tapered's, double, and triples, and rounds don't track for shit at low speed. They are built to turn at high speeds and they do that well as long as you have more than a couple inches of water. The tapered chine boats still track pretty well, IMO. Maybe not quite as well as a square, but pretty damn close.

 Re: Round chime custom boat
Places like this is where you want a round chine. It'll help you slide off stumps more. Yes they are a pain to turn but it has become second nature driving it that I don't notice it any longer. It's not bad when going against a current but when the current is pushing you and you are idling you better keep your hands in the boat cause your gonna be bouncing off shit like a tennis ball. You learn to use the trees to help you steer.

 Re: Round chime custom boat
I've had absolutely 0 problems using a square chine in thick woods and stumps. You get a narrow boat with a lil weight to it and a square chine won't slide
