Post Houseboat spud length
What is the length of the spuds on your houseboat? If you built a new houseboat would you go any longer? I was thinking 20' for my new boat but never had spuds before.

Mine are 25.

I figured 8' water. ...8'-10' of soft mud. There goes your 20'.

At my house it's about 8' of water and soft mud. I have a dock so it's not a problem. The spot I want to bring it is waw lake where my boat is at now. There is only about 6' of water at normal tide.

Is wax lake the only place you will ever ever bring it??? You never know what might happen. What about storm surges? Pipe is cheap compared to the investment you will make.

I think I will go 30' on the spuds. Never considered about storm surges.

I want to go all aluminum on the spuds. Does any one see a problem going with 4" SCH 80 pipe? Or is this over or under kill?

mine are 15' and they are not long enough they are 2 1/2" sch 80 aluminum and i may go with steel pipe next year the aluminum will bend very easily expecially if you go 30'

You just soon put PVC pipe if you go with aluminum. It will be cheaper and easier to change aluminum pipe is gonna bend
