Post Longtail with huntdeck
Are any of you guys running this combo, any reviews good or bad? I will running a 35 longtail and would like a huntdeck but not sure if its a good combo. What size boat would you recommend? Any help would be appreciated.

No experience with a hunt deck. If you use the search function on the site you can find out. From what I have seen it works out well but you have to put a good amount of slope on it to be able to dig your prop in. I have pods and there have been many cases where I have been completely out of the water teator totting on a log and if I had a hunt deck I would not of been able to get my prop in the water. As far as the size boat you need to give more info. Like the amount of load you are going to be pushing.

Reaching for water with a hunt deck shouldn't be a problem. You can always step on the deck to drop the motor down, but turning sharp from inside the boat may be a problem.

I typically hunt two guys, dog, and 6 or 7 dozen decoys. I would like something in the 18x54 range just not sure how a stock 35 will push it.

Do you need the hunt deck? Weight difference between a regular hull and hunt deck hull of the same length would probably be negligible. You should be good with a 35.

That will work as long as you are not. Using 10lbs weights for each decoy

Post Re: Longtail with huntdeck
No bad reviews by me. I ran my 25 hp longtail on my 18 x 48 boat for the past 2 hunting seasons. I would never want to run another longtail without a hunt deck. (I built a new motor for this season or I'd be running my longtail now)

I believe that there is a misunderstanding that you mount it at the stern of the hunt deck. Please note that my longtail motor didn't mount on the hunt deck on my hull, it mounted on the 16" transom.

Digging isn't necessary due to the buoyancy created by the hunt deck but if I ever needed to, I had more clearance than I would have ever wanted to dig. I run a triple cupped wheel which gives me better push when I run out of water. Hunted 3 of us, a dog and 4 doz dekes.

Here's a good thread:
