 Bottom replacement?
Anyone ever herd of replacing the bottom of a boat? Where my hunt deck meets the hull it us buckled pretty bad. I can feel it dragging water. Feels like I've lost a lot of speed and hole shot. Any suggestions?

 Re: Bottom replacement?
We have done it before on an open floor plan with ribs exposed. Not that big a deal if inside is accessible. Replace plate up to the rake

 Re: Bottom replacement?
Hydraulic jack, 4x4 post, and a 16 pound sledge. Knock the dents out and add more bracing, not a complete fix but it'll be a lot better than it is.

 Re: Bottom replacement?
I know this is a different situation totally but say in my case... My hull isnt worth much. Its in good shape with minimal hooking, a few minor dings but its still structurally very sound.
now, Its a modified V, front to back. and horizontally braced... there lies the issue.
Talked to a friend of mine about doing some welding on it. putting some spud holes etc. He mentioned cutting the floor out completely from the rake to the transom and making it flat, trimming the bottom of the transom and putting some longitudinal braces in. Seems like a 3/16" sheet of aluminum, and some 2x2x1/8" for runners and to brace the transom back up... am I missing something????

 Re: Bottom replacement?
I dont disagree with it being a good bit of work... I'd really like to build a hull but after looking at new boats I really want to run this one at least another year to really know what I want before having one built. I got the whole rig for a damn steal so it wouldnt be like cutting up something I'm still making payments on.
as far as the actual swap, The front deck ends in the rake (Its very short) and all thats left is the rear bench seat. It has no middle bench, it all open. I'd be cutting the transom and one bench, and I'm considering taking the rear bench out too. All I'd really be left with is cutting the transom. The labor would be free since me and him would be doing it in our free time over some beers.... not like I'd be paying a shop to do it for me.
