Re: Make Sure Your Boat is not Frozen to Trailer
Never unhook till boats in the water and you wont ever have the problem of falling off the trailer. ran into this about 5 years back, brought someone who hasn't hunted with us and it was 11 degrees and the boat had been froze to the trailer the other mornings we hunted as well but him wanting to help get the boat ready to launch we didn't notice he unhooked the front strap. started down the ramp and boat broke loose and slid right off the trailer. now I make sure its strapped everytime, even when its not cold I still don't unhook. easiest way I have found to get it unfroze is back in enough that the tires are still touching the ground and just work the motor left to right and it usually pops loose fairly quick.

Re: Make Sure Your Boat is not Frozen to Trailer
Never had any trouble with my heavy azz trailer floating with the boat, always breaks away pretty quick. Not unhooking the straps on the back is another story...........

Re: Make Sure Your Boat is not Frozen to Trailer
Like I said, I wouldn't have believed it either if I hadn't seen it take place less than 20 ft from me. Freak stuff happens all the time. They did the same thing most of us have done many times. Public land, boats lined up, gotta get off here and get my hole before someone else gets there. They were just terribly unlucky that morning.

Re: Make Sure Your Boat is not Frozen to Trailer
Lol, I read this and was thinking "I live and hunt in louisiana, I bet I never see enough cold for that happen...." Yesterday, dude with a prodrive and gatorglide was rocking his boat back and forth on the ramp, hear a small pop, a moment of eerie silence, then a loud clangthunkohshit....cricket, cricket.......then his boat started sliding down the ramp slowly all by itself. Talk about insult to injury. Ice AND Gatorglide whipped his ass. Felt bad for the guy for sure, helped him get it into the water then back on the trailer without anymore damage.

Re: Make Sure Your Boat is not Frozen to Trailer
You guys all have carpet on your bunks? Removing the carpet helps a lot. Probably not a big enough issue for you boys down there. Up here we deal with this daily, never heard or seen one flip before though.

Re: Make Sure Your Boat is not Frozen to Trailer

Re: Make Sure Your Boat is not Frozen to Trailer
Simple icey ramp tips. (in my opinion) 1) Tire chains 2) sand 3) trailer lights at the top of side guide-ons (so you don't bust em off) 4) of course guide-ons 5) keep chains/tow strap in truck 6) bare wood or plastic bunks 7) (this is the best one) launch at a gravel ramp whenever possible!
