Well about 2 months ago my dad said he wanted to sell the motor and go to an outboard. He fishes more than I hunt so he made the decission. We sold the Sport V44 and he couldnt decide what outboard he wanted to go with.

Long story short.....he changed his mind and decided he wanted another MM. We were both very happy with the V44 for the 20 hours we had on it. With all the issues they are having and the talk of discontinuing the V, along with the 15-20 week wait time from the dealer for another one, we decided to order a new GTR 35L with stage 1 (head work, cam, billet push rods, timing, and custom x exhaust). Dont have money for the carb right now, but if im not happy with the glorified stocker a Mikuni will be on it by summer.

I am very excited to see what this motor will do on our heavier excel. With me alone, I got around 28-29mph with the V44. With 3 guys dog, and full hunting gear I was lucky to get 18-20mph. Im hoping I can get close to those empty speeds and a little better fully loaded speeds. Im like a kid in the candy store waiting on this thing. Dont know why cause everything here is 6-8 inches thick with ice. Ordered the motor Jan 20th, so hopefully they are close to the 6-8 week turn around with the motors. Crappie season is right around the corner.

Just a suggestion...you should have sold the hull too.

Both. Dont get me wrong, it is heavy but the waters we hunt and fish can get 3-4 foot rollers. We have to cross main water to get to our holes and the sense of security knowing I have a heavier boat eases my mind a bit. It handles the rough water great and the shallow water performance is great for our type of hunting.

Slower=safer?

A guy I know runs a 1750 Excel with a MB 5500hd and can run almost 30 with 3 guys.

I wonder sometimes if people don't distribute weight or have their motor set just right.

I agree on speed. My old rig would hold 29 with 4 people and two 45 Yetis. 1751 F4 with a PVT MB.

How's that gtr gonna like that 15-16 deg transom angle on the excel?

Pete i think u will like the gtr.u prob run the same kind of places i do after all i am just across the river in semo from u. i have a 1854f4 with a gtr getting ready to do mods in a few weeks and doing a repaint on the boat . i am ready to cappie fish too!!!!!

i think i would feel safer in a prodrive sbx hull.

Watched 3 Excel boats this weekend and not at all impressed, every one of them plowed with only about a foot and half of rake out of the water. Kinda looked like the ass end rode higher than the front with only 2 people per boat. Friend of mine has one that i just replaced the power head on and he said he's selling it ASAP.

Surely thats not the stupidest thing you've read on here….
