Prop ? for a 27 LT on an Aucoin 18x48
I have a 27 Kohler LT on an Aucoin 18x48. I just put it in the water for the first time yesterday. I could only muster 3100 RPM out of the motor. I am assuming that the motor has a 9x7 prop on it now. Does anyone run a similar setup? If so what prop are you/ should I be running. Motor runs ok but I am going to do a compression check tomorow. Just doesn't seem to build the RPM's the it needs to. It was just me (160lbs), 5 gal gas, a few life jackets, one group 24 battery, and one fire extinquisher. Not much of a load at all.
Trey

On the 23 GDLT in my 16x48 GDSD hull the best prop was the 9x6 - for 2 man loads and all around performance @ 21 mph solo and 19 mph loaded.... The 9x7 was 2 mph faster solo and empty but was 2 mph slower with 2 man hunting load @ 23 mph solo and 17 mph loaded...
If you remove your prop the pitch should be stamped into the hub - if you measure from tip to tip and have less than 8 1/2 inches - it is time to consider buying a new prop....
Dropping one pitch will add about 300 rpm at WOT and a lot more bottom end power.... Each pitch change is drastic with these longtails - some get best perforance and speed with the 9x5...

I will pull the prop and look at the pitch stamped on it. It is a MB prop on a GD. I don't know the OUt of water RPM's. I know they are WAY high. The PO has messed with the governer to the point that it does nothing out of water. It will hit 4k at half throttle. I am going to work on it some more tomorrow. Got a serious crank case leak that has to be fixed too.

JP....I have a 27 mudbuddy on a 15x48 duracraft and I get the following with a brand new prop....
4050 RPM's out of water 3050 RPM's with a load of 2 people and 3 doz. decoys.
I am ok with the performance knowing that the motor is a little too big for the boat. I just put a new prop on the motor in between the splits in LA. I explained my situation to mudbuddy and they still recommended a 9x7 for my setup. Still not quite sure about the answer I got. I am still under the opinion that 9x6 would have been better for me.
