Post Sub floor ideas
Hey guys just picked up a new rig. The boat currently has a plywood subfloor covered in outdoor carpet. The wood was just replaced and is in good condition, but the previous owner was just fishing. I know that this will not last when it gets soaked with mud and water from climbing in and out of the boat. I checked into aluminum prices. To get aluminum in 1/8" will cost about $400. And i am not sure that 1/8" is thick enough. Does anybody have any suggestions on an alternative to aluminum that will be durable and light?

If your bracing is close together .100 will work. If not much bracing then I'd go .125.

I used .100 with bracing on 8' centers, rock solid. You can get 20x4 .100 5052 for around 250ish

I used exterior ply and painted it with 3 coats of exterior paint. Then applied poor-man's turf on it. After 2 years the ply is still good and after 1 season of duck hunting my poor-man's turf is still good.
My plywood is 19/32, but is supported pretty good.

I had a plywood floor in my Lowe. I had to replace the floor once in 25 years. My buddy still has the boat with the second floor in it. I used exterior plywood with 2-3 coats of Parker duck boat paint on each side (painting the underside is key) and the edges. It is important to seal it up properly and slather extra paint in any knots, edges, or imperfections. Then i installed it with pop rivets, so they could be easily drilled out every 5 years or so to clean out under the floor. The topside paint must be touched up every few years, or if it gets gouged, to keep it sealed.

I tried adding grip material to the paint once, but that just hastened the wear in the paint. It seemed that the natural roughness of the plywood was enough to provide good footing after all, so I didn't put anything on it but paint after that.
