 Performance Question 35hp
My recently acquired1644 gatortrax and 35 gdsd are running well but not putting out the speeds I thought they would. WOT running close to 3800 rpms, smooth deep water and according to my speed tracker I'm doing top speeds of 24. Motor has no mods, tried different trim positions, running a three blade prop. This is just me in the boat with gas battery and a few misc items that add no weight really that would affect performance. Is this all I can expect? It doesn't have a hunt deck. Hours on motor 136 Thanks for the responses.

 Re: Performance Question 35hp
Take a tape measure and measure from center of the prop to the tip of each blade, should all be about the same. Post that measurement here along with a good pic or two of the prop, and someone will give you a legit answer.

 Re: Performance Question 35hp
Measured from center to tip of each blade and they all appear to measure about 5.5 inches. Below are some pics of the blade. Not sure how old it is. Three blade came with the motor.
There's not a lot of cupping around the edges of the blades. Should there be.

 Re: Performance Question 35hp
Took it out today. Me, wife and our daughter who is 6 and wot was turning 3700 rpms. Doing 21 bumping 22. Scratching my head on this one. I really have to bare down and squeeze the throttle to get it to 3700. Idle rpms are 900 in the water. Perhaps not full cable travel? Maybe an idle adjustments needed?
Thanks.

What does the bottom of the boat look like?

 Re: Performance Question 35hp
I would start with the throttle cable and work from there. Make sure you butterfly valve is opening all the way. You prop does show a little wear but a worn prop normally results in more Rpms because of less cup and actual prop. I also beileve that gdsd tend to try and ride high/blow the prop out if the water when the prop wears down(don't quote me but that's why there is a tab to bend on the side of the skeg)

 Re: Performance Question 35hp
Once you make sure your carb is opening up all the way just check that the tab the throttle linkage hooks up to bottoms out against the throttle stop. At 130 hours your heads prob have some leakage that doesnt help your speed

 Re: Performance Question 35hp
Weight plays a big factor. Especially in a round chine Gator trax hull. I know cause I have one. What you gain in handling (turning ablility) you lose in some speed. Probably 2-3mph. My 18x44 hull has 2 gun boxes and a large bench compartment . 2 batteries, 50lb troll motor plus gear like 3 spot lights, paddle, push pole, trailer jack, tools etc. I run a 35 mud buddy with aftermarket exhaust and big blade prop. I'll run 25.5 to 26.4 mph at 3950 rpms I weigh 175lbs. With my son 180lbs I get 24mph at 3900 rpms with both of us. Add 2 more guys and we are down to 22-23mph at 3770rpms. The 16ft boat does not carry the load as well as the 18ft in the same hull width. My buddy has the 16x44 gator trax with all stock mud buddy and I think he runs 25mph by himself. That's just what they do. Wind and current play a factor also.

 Re: Performance Question 35hp
Once you get weight and trim figured out you might pick up a couple, my gtr is on a 1642 and I average 26

 Re: Performance Question 35hp
Good deal. With 2 guys and a dog doing 24 that's about the best you'll do. Everything is working properly.

 Re: Performance Question 35hp
That's what I was getting out of my 1860 gd w/ a 35 gdsd on the back. If you're gonna keep the motor, I would definitely invest in a Mikuni carb. There's something off though.
