Ready to buy boat. At least 1754. Want to hunt & trot line . What motor ? Any ideas boats. Looking at prodigy. Don't want to be underpowered but reverse sounds necessary.

This should get interesting real quick lol. I have an 1854 Prodigy with a 35GTR and love it. Very happy with my dealings with Chad at Prodigy and the GTR is a strong motor. Reverse is really nice!

I like the godevil hulls, heavy, but is a tank. As for motor, it's all up to u. They all have pros and cons"............. As for me, I prefer a longtail

If its up high, it's coming to the ground

What kind of terrain are you running? lots of stumps and rocks? Big open water or mostly backwater?

Agreed, anything really stumpy, go with a long tail. I've been in a real stumpy area in my pro drive before and yea fck that. Get you a 27hp godevil

But if running trot lines a long tail will be tough to run by yourself. What area are you in? There are a ton of great builders out there and maybe one close to you.

No, long tails aren't hard to run trot lines or traps. If ur boat has cat walks, u can put the tiller handle under it to keep prop out of water. Or u can put a pad EYE to connect a bungee cord so when u let go of the tiller, it will pull down on handle to keep prop out of water

Pintail out of curiosity. Why is the prodrive so bad in the stumps?

Oh ok. The only thing that I don't like about hitting stumps with my gtr is the amount of time it takes to come down.

I went 1854 Prodigy with a 35 GTR and could not be happier. If I had to do over I would probably go 1754 because I think I could get by with the shorter boat and it would be a little lighter

Going to make a decision this week, a lot of money. Also looked at pro drive & gatortrax boats. Any ideas? There is boat maker a lot closer to me Stump Jumper . Has anyone had experience with these boats. Thanks for help.

Gatortrax makes a solid boat. If you're running a LOT of stumps get the non hunt deck model. Mine hasn't got any real hooks in it but the false transom is starting to show. Probably put gator glide on it this summer and not ever be able to notice it. The round chines are nice when you're trying to push the boat sideways off a log or back into the boat trail. They are also the real deal when it comes to turning unless you're in less than floatable water. I love mine and think it will probably last a lifetime. As far as motor choice 1st rule of thumb, get as much horsepower as you can afford. The gtr is tough as nails and I almost never worry about tearing it up but, for what it's worth the gtr reverse isnt as instant as everyone says. Sure the prop spins backwards almost instantly but I have to trim mine almost all the way down for the reverse to work and almost all the way back up to get it to plane out again and the gtr trim is slow and even slower when the hydraulic fluid is cold. I know running trot lines that wouldn't be a big deal but it's not ideal when you're trying to weave your way in between trees. The only advice I can give you on exactly which motor to choose is the same as anybody thats actually trying to shoot you straight. Drive all of them, preferably on similar boats, before you drop 5-10 grand on a motor and then a few months down the road be wondering if you made the right choice. I wish I had listened to these guys before I bought mine.
